He built the technology team and infrastructure which supports Citywire’s catalogue of UK markets, Unit Trusts and Investment Trusts data products. Throughout his time at Citywire, Gareth had hands-on technical involvement, both as systems architect and lead developer. He implemented many of the key systems himself and also managed a team of 7 developers. Databases were hosted on SQL Server 2000. Application code was written in C#, Visual Basic.Net and COM+. One of Gareth’s key achievements was the design and delivery of the 'Citywire Funds Insider' database. This is now widely accepted by the Asset Management Industry as the leading metric of fund manager performance. The project integrated the Lipper Hindsight unit trust performance analysis software with high performance, robust systems to produce ranking and rating statistics, which track individual Fund Managers over their careers. An in depth understanding of the concepts and regional variations of the international asset management industry was required. Acting as main point of contact for blue chip customers, such as Reuters, Abbey National, AMP and Credit Suisse, Gareth assisted client technical teams in the integration of Citywire’s XML feeds and web services and provided ad-hoc technical consultancy where needed.
