1.0. Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji’s Gurbani It is the opinion of ordinary people that the syllables used in the end of words written in Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji has no significants in denoting the respective meanings. However, after in depth study one shall realise that each and every syllable written on the last consonant of a word not only has a specific order but also defines the meaning of the word which relates to the overall meaning of the sentence. Ignorance of the above fact results the misinterpretation of the meaning as well as the wrong pronunciation of Gurbani. This further leads to the errors in printing of Gurbani which misses out the syllables and the subscript consonants and numbers. The result of the above trend will have a great impact on the future generations as the authentic meanings of Gurbani will be lost and many may interpret Gurbani baselessly and directed to the writer’s opinion. This will cause enormous damage in Gurbani reading as well as understanding. Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji Academy has emerged to educate and enhance the knowledge of Gurbani through authentic and approved approach in reviving the concepts as well as the practices in reading and understanding Gurbani. Therefore this module aims to understand in depth the grammar of Gurbani.

Imperative Mood Definition:

The quality of a verb that conveys the writer's attitude toward a subject. In English, the indicative mood is used to make factual statements or pose questions, the imperative mood to express a request or command, and the (rarely used) subjunctive mood to show a wish, doubt, or anything else contrary to fact. •

indicative mood "Life is full of misery, loneliness, and suffering--and it's all over much too soon." (Woody Allen) imperative mood "Ask not what your country can do for you. Ask what you can do for your country." (President John F. Kennedy) subjunctive mood "If I were rich, I'd have the time that I lack To sit in the synagogue and pray." (from Fiddler on the Roof)
