Dear Citizens of Damariscotta, Newcastle and Bremen, I am pleased to present our annual Great Salt Bay Community School report card for the school’s 2008-2009 performance on the Maine Educational Assessment (MEA) that is administered in grades three through eight. Each school union/district in the nation is required, by law, to report these results in accordance with determinations around Adequate Yearly Progress, or AYP. The report card outlines four major areas: 1) Accountability Reports for each grade level broken down by subgroups that are evident at that grade level. Please note that subgroups with less than ten students are, by federal law, not reportable due to confidentiality considerations. 2)

Specific Assessment Reports by grade level in the content areas of Reading and Mathematics.

3) The status of the school that is on a monitor, needs improvement, or corrective action status. Great Salt Bay Community School continues to make adequate yearly progress in the areas of Reading and Mathematics. Congratulations to our students, teachers, staff and parents for their support! 4) Highly qualified data on the status of our teaching staff. Three of Great Salt Bay’s teachers are not considered to be “Highly Qualified” to teach at the grade level and/or content area. These teachers are working towards qualification status. To summarize the NCLB (No Child Left Behind) report card for our school, the following are common variables to be noted: · In the area of reading, seventy-seven percent of all our students in grades three through eight met or exceeded the standard. We were above the state average in grades three through eight. · In the area of mathematics, seventy percent of all our students in grades three through eight met or exceeded the standard. We were above the state average in grades four through eight and were at the state average for grade three.

At Great Salt Bay Community School we will continue to improve our practice and the learning of our students. For a comprehensive review of the NCLB report of our school, you may access it on our website (https://schools.aos93.org/gsb)

Sincerely,

Jeffrey Boston Principal
