GROUP DISCUSSION M.S.BAIG FACULTY MEMBER INC-KHAMMAM

Group Discussion A GD is a methodology used by an organization to gauge whether the candidate has certain personality traits and/or skills that it desires in its members. In this methodology, the group of candidates is given a topic or a situation, given a few minutes to think about the same, and then asked to discuss it among themselves for 15-20 minutes.

What can I get out of group discussion? Some advantages of group discussion are:  Ideas can be generated.  Ideas can be shared.  Ideas can be 'tried out'.  Ideas can be responded to by others.  When the dynamics are right, groups provide a supportive and nurturing environment for academic and professional Endeavour.  Group discussion skills have many professional applications.  Working in groups is fun!

What it will be gauged         

Ability to work in a team Communication skills Reasoning ability Leadership skills Initiative Assertiveness Flexibility Creativity Ability to think on ones feet

How to Face Group Discussions  

   

Communication Skills Knowledge and ideas regarding a given subject Capability to co-ordinate and lead Exchange of thoughts Addressing the group as a whole Thorough preparations

Points to Remember   

 

Knowledge is strength Power to convince If you are not sure the topic of discussion, adopt the wait and watch attitude A GD is not a debating stage. Language use should be simple, direct and straight forward. Don't interrupt a speaker when the session is one Maintain rapport with fellow participants Non-verbal gestures plays a major role Communicate with each and every candidate present

Points to Remember 



 



Remember to keep the discussion on the subject Enhance the quality of the discussion. Avoid sub-grouping tendencies Do not allow one or two members to monopolies the discussion. conclude each argument at the right time and in the right manner
