Algonac High School Graduation Requirements English (4 credits) Courses earning English credit are English 9, English 9 Honors, American Literature, World Literature, Communication III, Communications IV, College Composition, and Advanced Placement English.
Math (4 credits) Courses earning Math credits are: Core Plus II, III, IV, V, Honors Core Plus mathematics, Advanced Placement Statistics and Advanced Placement Calculus.
Science (3 credits) Courses earning Science credits are: Biology I & II, Chemistry, Physics, Chemistry II, and Advanced Placement Biology.
Social Studies (3 credits) Courses earning credit are: World History, US History, Government/ Economics. Health and Physical Education (1 credit) Minimum must be .5 Health and .5 Physical Education. Courses earning credit are: Physical Education I, Advanced Fitness and Conditioning and Lifelong Activities.
Visual, Performing and Applied Arts (1 credit) Courses earning credit are: Drama, Chorus, Band, Drawing and Painting, Commercial Design, Audio Visual Production, Yearbook, Newspaper, Advanced Manufacturing Lab, Computer Software and Advanced Software.
Elective Credits (7.5 credits) Issues in Society, American Problems, Eastern Hemispheres & Cultural Studies, AP Psychology, Psychology, Library Science, Spanish I, II, III, French I, II, III & IV, German I & II, Mandarin Chinese, and Introduction to Business & Accounting.
Other credits – (.25) credit is granted per sport, Student Council and Quiz Bowl. World Languages (2 credits or an equivalent experience) Begins with the class of 2016. • Students who have attended The Algonac Community Schools in Elementary and Middle School will have met this requirement through a K-8 program of study (equivalent experience). • Students who have not met this requirement through and equivalent experience can do so by taking two credits of World Languages. Courses meeting this requirement are: French, Spanish, German (offered through Distance Learning), Japanese (offered through Distance Learning) and Mandarin Chinese (offered through Michigan Virtual University). Online Learning Experience – There are several options to fulfilling this requirement. Sophomores at Algonac High School participate in a Career Pathway seminar. The Career Pathway seminar will fulfill this requirement. Other options include course taken through Education 20/20. Standardized Testing Policy - All Algonac High School students are required to take all Michigan Merit Exam assessments and/or any other State or federal required assessments and are expected to put forth their best effort. During the junior year of high school, all students will need to have taken and achieved proficiency on all Michigan Merit Exam (MME) assessment and/or State or federal required assessments.
