Mrs. Geigner’s Grading Policy 8H English 2007-2008 School Year The school year is divided into 4 quarters ending on the following dates: • First Quarter ends on October 19th. • Second Quarter ends on December 21st. • Third Quarter ends on March 14th. • Fourth Quarter ends on May 27th. Each quarter has the same 7 categories; categories are weighted to total 100% of the student grade. The categories are: • 40% Writing • 30% Grammar and Word Knowledge • 15% Class Activities • 15% Employability Total= 100% of the student grade. Employability Employability includes points given and deducted that would be considered necessary for employment such as time management, coming prepared, going above and beyond, attitude, following policy and procedures, completing class work, participation, etc. Students begin each quarter with 100 employability points. Various infractions cause students to lose some of these points. For example- turning in an assignment late is a loss of 5 employability points. The grade on the assignment itself is not changed. A student can still earn a 100% on a paper for turning it in late, however they lose the 5 employability points. Some examples of standard infraction and point deductions: • Late assignments –5 points a week. • Failure (after a first warning) to bring supplies to class (-1 point). • Inappropriate attitude/following directions (3-10 point loss depending on situation). Students can earn additional employability points for “going above and beyond” and completing extra credit assignments (all extra credit points go into the employability category), attending study sessions, participating in special activities, and helping out in the classroom.
