Grade 8 Health Miss. Douville Email: [email protected] Philosophy ‘The aim of the Health and Life Skills Kindergarten to Grade 9 Program of Studies is to enable students to make well-informed, healthy choices and to develop behaviours that contribute to the well- being of self and others. to achieve this aim, students require an understanding of self as the basis for healthy interactions with others and for career development and lifelong learning. Students also require a safe and caring school and community environment in which to explore ideas and issues surrounding personal choice, to seek accurate information, and to practice healthy behaviours.’- Health and Life Skills Program of Studies Alberta. Major Concepts: The learning concepts are divided into 3 strands: Wellness choices: Students will make responsible and informed choices to maintain health and to promote safety for self and others. Relationship Choices: Students will develop effective interpersonal skills that demonstrate responsibility, respect and caring in order to establish and maintain healthy interactions. Life Learning Choices: Students will use resources effectively to manage and explore life roles and career opportunities and challenges. Each Major Concept is Divided into Specific outcomes: Specific Outcomes Include: - Personal Health - Understanding and Expressing Feelings - Group Roles and Career Development - Safety and Responsibility - Interactions - Learning Strategies - Volunteerism Evaluation Participation in online communication and activities 40% Due Date: Throughout the course Submission: Indicated on the weekly content You will be required to participate and community with peers and the content throughout the course. This will include online activities such as flip grid, google classroom, and coggle.

Assignments 30% Due Date: Throughout the course Submission: Indicated on the weekly content Assignments will be throughout the course and will be submitted via google classroom.

Reflections 20% You will be required to post on google classroom as a reflection throughout the course. All posts must be an adequate length (half a page minimum), and must refer to the content presented during the week. Quizzes 10% There will be quizzes throughout the course on google forms. The quizzes will be emailed out to the students prior.
