Grade 7 Mathematics 2007-8 Course Outline Course Description: The main goals of math is to prepare you the student to use math to solve problems, communicate and reason mathematically, appreciate and value math, commit to lifelong learning & become mathematically literate. The four strands in this course are number, pattern and relations, shape and space and statistics & probability. The course aims to engage the student in tasks and projects, exhibit a positive attitude, have discussions, be a risk taker, exhibit curiosity & enjoy the learning experience. Textbook: Minds on Math 7 Topics: The course will reflect the textbook. Each chapter will be approximately 3 weeks in length. The goal is to complete all topics but not always in chronological order. Assessment 30% - Tests (You will have a pre-test for each unit….post test to follow…don’t worry the pre-test does not count towards your grade) 30% - Projects (This will give you an opportunity to apply, analyze, synthesize and evaluate the concepts with real world examples.) 20% - Quizzes (Weekly quizzes… 1 or 2 a week) 10% - Weekly Problem Solving (You will receive a math problem on Monday and have it solved by Friday) Once you have completed the problem you will place it into a duotang to be marked. 10% - Homework (You will get points: 2 = complete, 1 = partially complete, 0 = not attempted) Homework will be posted on my blog & written on the white board. Please ensure you write in your agenda whether you HAVE or DO NOT HAVE homework everyday. EXTRA HELP If you need some extra help I will be available before school, during lunch (when I am not on duty) or after school. Please make sure you come and chat with me! Absences If you away from school or anticipate being away it is your responsibility to catch up on the work missed. Exams You will have a FINAL exam in June on the entire year’s worth of work.
