Gluco addresses the problem of Type 1 diabetes users struggling to use insulin delivery systems during physical activity. Gluco enables young active users to detach bulky insulin delivery systems during physical activity. With a completely automated and closed circuit system, Gluco provides non- invasive glucose monitoring via skin readings and minimally invasive insulin delivery. Blood glucose levels and drug delivery can be easily seen by a friendly use interface. A RFID tag embedded in the device syncs with a smart phone enabling more detailed analysis of glucose monitoring and drug delivery. Gluco comprises two components, patch and pump. The patch unit contains the glucose monitor and drug reservoir, which lasts up to 12 hours. The pump unit, when attached to the pump, refills the reservoir. The patch unit adheres to the skin and is disposable within 4 days, and has minimal electronic components in order to reduce unecessary e-waste. The pump unit, which contains the bulk of the electronics, has a rechargeable battery and is intended to be used permanently. When detached from the pump, it is small enough to be stored in the pocket or displayed as a stylish fashion accessory.
