Introducing the National Tropical Botanical Garden’s new

Vacation and Volunteer Program, “G.I.V.E.R.S.”

Garden - plant, weed, water and provide general plant maintenance of rare and

endangered species housed in the living collections of NTBG. Invest - in our mission to enrich life through discovery, scientific research, conservation, and education by perpetuating the survival of plants, ecosystems, and cultural knowledge of tropical regions. Vacation on Kauai; lose yourself in the quiet majesty of the island's lush tropical setting and extraordinary natural heritage. Educate – through hands on exposure to rare, unique and endangered botanical collections. Reside – on site in basic shared Garden Housing located steps from our beautiful Kalaheo Administrative Campus for a minimal charge. Serve - our not-for-profit organization with your volunteer time, skills, and talents as one of our Na Lima Kokua (helping hands). Applications are being accepted for the December 6-19th 2009 session. Program participants can stay 7 or 14 nights starting Sunday December 6th or 13th and departing either Sunday 13th or 19th. Participants are required to volunteer 32 hours each week Monday-Thursday at the Allerton or McBryde Garden during their stay. This program would suit someone interested in volunteering out in varying weather conditions (sun, rain). A good level of physical fitness is needed for walking on uneven surfaces, standing, bending, and carrying tools/plants. No expertise is required, but always welcome. Tools, gloves and training provided by NTBG staff. G.I.V.E.R.S. participants will stay in shared housing (two twin sized beds in each room) for the rate of $25 (7 night stay minimum). This is similar to “Hostel” style living. Transportation is only provided to and from Garden volunteer sites. Volunteers are responsible for off Garden transportation, food, and other personal expenses. For more detailed information and an application, please write to [email protected] with G.I.V.E.R.S. program in the subject line. Or, call the volunteer coordinator at 808332-7324 x228
