Genesis 30:9–11: 9 When Leah saw that she had left bearing, she took Zilpah her maid, and gave her Jacob to wife. 10 And Zilpah Leah’s maid bare Jacob a son. 11 And Leah said, “A troop cometh:” and she called his name Gad.
Hebrew Letter (from Paleo Hebrew page on the Internet)
The Hebrew letter associated with the tribe of Gad is zayin (zah’yin) ('). It is the English Z. It signifies a weapon. Numerically, it is the number 7, which spiritual completeness or perfection.
Gemstone
A ligure. E. Raymond Capt says this was probably jacinth, a Zircon possessing a fiery yellow or red-orange hue. Zircon is a gem of the rare earth element Zirconium. It refracts and disperses light to a degree second only to the diamond. When crystals are colorless or smoky they are termed “Jargoon.” On account of its glitter it is sometimes substituted for a diamond. In general, however, it lacks brilliant transparency.
Encampment Position
On the south, to the west of Reuben.
Standard
Gad’s emblem is a troop of horsemen.
Zodiac Sign
Aries (The Ram or Lamb). The Lamb That was slain, prepared for the victory. The blessings of the redeemed consummated and enjoyed.
Position in Zodiac Story
Fourth sign in the second book, The Redeemed. Constellations are Cassiopeia (the enthroned woman—the captive delivered, and praparing for her husband, the Redeemer), Cetus (the sea monster—the great enemy bound), and Perseus (the Breaker—delivering His redeemed).
Jacob’s Blessing for the Last Days
Genesis 49:19 19 Gad, a troop shall overcome him: but he shall overcome at the last.
1
Gad’s Blessing Genesis 49:19 19 Gad (1410), a troop (1416) shall overcome (1464) him: but he shall overcome (1464) at the last. Gad’s blessing is very interesting in the Hebrew because most of the words in the blessing are related to each other: 1410—Gâwd, gawd; from 1464; Gad, a son of Jacob, includ. his tribe and its territory; also a prophet:—Gad 1413—gâdad, gaw-dad’; a prim. root [comp. 1464]; to crowd; also to gash (as if by pressing into):—assemble (selves by troops), gather (selves together, self in troops), cut selves. 1416—gedûwd, ghed-ood’; from 1413; a crowd (espec. of soldiers):—army, band (of men), company, troop (of robbers). 1464—gûwd, goode; a prim. root [akin to 1413]; to crowd upon, i.e. attack:—invade, overcome. From E. Raymond Capt’s Missing Links Discovered in the Assyrian Tablets: In this short blessing of Gad, very little is promised to him (in a material sense) but it does show a definite relationship between him and a TROOP OF HORSEMEN. In Deut. 33:20, Moses likens Gad to a LION. But, as in the case of Dan, apparently the LION was never used. This left Gad with but one useable emblem, a TROOP OF HORSEMEN, which is usually portrayed with a mounted leader of the TROOP holding aloft a pennant. Gad’s emblem has had little usage in heraldry.

Gad’s Zodiac Sign Aries (The Ram or Lamb) The Blessings of the Redeemed Consummated and Enjoyed
Aries (The Ram or Lamb) Hebrew Name The Hebrew name for Aries is Taleh, the lamb.
Aries—66 Stars (one of the second magnitude, two of the fourth magnitude) á
The brightest star, located in the forehead, El Nath or El Natik, wounded, slain
â
Located in the left horn, Al Sheratan, the bruised, the wounded
(
Located in the left horn, Hebrew Mesartim, the bound
Place in the Heavenly Story The second book depicts the sufferings of the Redeemer and the blessings they procured for His redeemed people. The second book opens with the goat (Capricornus) and closes with the Ram (Aries), two animals of sacrifice. The two middle signs (Aquarius and Pisces) are both connected with fishes. In Aries, we are first shown the foundation on which victory rests, namely atonement. Hence we are taken back and reminded of the blood of the Lamb.
3
Cassiopeia (The Enthroned Woman) The Captive Delivered, and Preparing for Her Husband, the Redeemer In Pisces (Andromeda), we see the woman bound. In Cassiopeia, we see the same woman freed, delivered, and enthroned. Cassiopeia passes vertically over Great Britain every day, and it is easily recognized by its five brightest stars, which form an irregular W. The constellation contains one binary star, a triple star, a double star, and a large number of nebulæ. In 1572, Tycho Brahe discovered a star in Cassiopeia that shone more brightly than Venus, but it disappeared entirely less than two years later. Cassiopeia is highly exalted and making herself ready. Her hands, no longer bound, are engaged in this happy work. With her right hand, she is arranging her robes, while with her left she is adorning her hair. She is seated upon the Arctic circle, and close by the side of Cepheus, the King. Cassiopeia—55 Stars (five of the third magnitude, five of the fourth magnitude) á
Located in the left breast, Hebrew Schedir, the freed
â
Located in the top of the chair, Hebrew Caph, the branch (for the branch of victory she has in her left hand)
Cassiopeia is a visual depiction of the bride of Christ: Isaiah 54:5–8: 5 For thy Maker is thine husband; the LORD of hosts is His name; and thy Redeemer the Holy One of Israel; The God of the whole earth shall He be called. 6 For the LORD hath called thee as a woman forsaken and grieved in spirit, and a wife of youth, when thou wast refused,” saith thy God. 7 “For a small moment have I forsaken thee; but with great mercies will I gather thee. 8 In a little wrath I hid My face from thee for a moment; but with everlasting kindness will I have mercy on thee,” saith the LORD thy Redeemer.
4
Cetus (The Sea Monster) The Great Enemy Bound Cetus is the largest of all constellations. He is the great enemy, Satan, bound. Cetus is situated very low down among the constellations—far away toward the south or lower regions of the sky.
Cetus—97 Stars (two of the second magnitude, eight of the third magnitude, nine of the fourth magnitude) á
Brightest star, located in the upper mandible, Menkar, the bound or chained enemy
â
Located in the tail, Diphda, or Deneb Kaitos, overthrown, or thrust down.
ï
Located in the neck, Mira, the rebel. This is a remarkable star—very bright and also variable. It disappears periodically seven times in six years. It continues at its brightest for 15 days together. During 334 days it shines with its greatest light, then it diminishes until it entirely disappears for some time (to the naked eye). During that period it passes through several degrees of magnitude, both increasing and diminishing. Its variableness is so great as to make it appear unsteady.
5
Perseus (The Breaker) The Breaker Delivering the Redeemed Perseus shows us a mighty man, called in the Hebrew Peretz, from which we have the Greek form Perses, or Perseus (Romans 16:13). It is the same word used of Christ in Micah 2:13. When He shall surely “gather the remnant of Israel”: “The breaker is come up before them: . . . Their king shall pass before them, And the LORD on the head of them.” We see a glorious Breaker taking His place before His redeemed, breaking forth at their head, breaking down all barriers, and breaking the heads of Leviathan and all his hosts. In His right hand, He has His “sore, and great, and strong sword” lifted up to smite and break down the enemy. He has wings on His feet, which tell us that He is coming very swiftly. In His left hand He carries the head of the enemy, Medusa, whom He has slain. Its Hebrew root meant the trodden under foot. It is also called in Hebrew Rosh Satan, the head of the adversary.
Perseus—59 Stars (two of the second magnitude, four of the third magnitude, twelve of the fourth magnitude) á
Brightest star, located in the waist, Mirfak, who helps
ã
Located in the right shoulder, Arabic Al Genib, who carries away A bright star located in the left foot, Athik, who breaks
â
Located in the head of Medusa, Al Gol, rolling around. Medusa, another star of the enemy and another variable star. In about 69 hours it changes from the fourth magnitude to the second. During four hours of this period it gradually diminishes in brightness, which it recovers in the succeeding four hours. In the remainder of the time, it invariably preserves its greatest luster. After the expiration of this time its brightness begins to decrease again. Like the enemy, it is constantly changing its colors.

Gad’s Inheritances Moses Assigns Gadites Their Portion in the Promised Land Numbers 32:1–36: 1 Now the children of Reuben and the children of Gad had a very great multitude of cattle: and when they saw the land of Jazer, and the land of Gilead, that, behold, the place was a place for cattle; 2 The children of Gad and the children of Reuben came and spake unto Moses, and to Eleazar the priest, and unto the princes of the congregation, saying, 3 “Ataroth, and Dibon, and Jazer, and Nimrah, and Heshbon, and Elealeh, and Shebam, and Nebo, and Beon, 4 Even the country which the LORD smote before the congregation of Israel, is a land for cattle, and thy servants have cattle:” 5 “Wherefore,” said they, “if we have found grace in thy sight, let this land be given unto thy servants for a possession, and bring us not over Jordan.” 6 And Moses said unto the children of Gad and to the children of Reuben, “Shall your brethren go to war, and shall ye sit here? 7 And wherefore discourage ye the heart of the children of Israel from going over into the land which the LORD hath given them? 8 Thus did your fathers, when I sent them from Kadesh-barnea to see the land. 9 For when they went up unto the valley of Eshcol, and saw the land, they discouraged the heart of the children of Israel, that they should not go into the land which the LORD had given them. 10 And the LORD ’s anger was kindled the same time, and He sware, saying,11 ‘Surely none of the men that came up out of Egypt, from twenty years old and upward, shall see the land which I sware unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob; because they have not wholly followed Me: 12 Save Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenezite, and Joshua the son of Nun: for they have wholly followed the LORD . 13 And the LORD ’s anger was kindled against Israel, and He made them wander in the wilderness forty years, until all the generation, that had done evil in the sight of the LORD , was consumed. 14 And, behold, ye are risen up in your fathers’ stead, an increase of sinful men, to augment yet the fierce anger of the LORD toward Israel. 15 For if ye turn away from after Him, He will yet again leave them in the wilderness; and ye shall destroy all this people.” 16 And they came near unto him, and said, “We will build sheepfolds here for our cattle, and cities for our little ones: 17 But we ourselves will go ready armed before the children of Israel, until we have brought them unto their place: and our little ones shall dwell in the fenced cities because of the inhabitants of the land. 18 We will not return unto our houses, until the children of Israel have inherited every man his inheritance. 19 For we will not inherit with them on yonder side Jordan, or forward; because our inheritance is fallen to us on this side Jordan eastward.” 20 And Moses said unto them, “If ye will do this thing, if ye will go armed before the LORD to war, 21 And will go all of you armed over Jordan before the LORD , until He hath driven out His enemies from before Him, 22 And the land be subdued before the LORD : then afterward ye shall return, and be guiltless before the LORD , and before Israel; and this land shall be your possession before the LORD . 23 But if ye will not do so, behold, ye have sinned against the LORD : and be sure your sin will find you out. 24 Build you cities for your little ones, and folds for your sheep; and do that which
11
hath proceeded out of your mouth.” 25 And the children of Gad and the children of Reuben spake unto Moses, saying, “Thy servants will do as my lord commandeth. 26 Our little ones, our wives, our flocks, and all our cattle, shall be there in the cities of Gilead: 27 But thy servants will pass over, every man armed for war, before the LORD to battle, as my lord saith.” 28 So concerning them Moses commanded Eleazar the priest, and Joshua the son of Nun, and the chief fathers of the tribes of the children of Israel: 29 And Moses said unto them, “If the children of Gad and the children of Reuben will pass with you over Jordan, every man armed to battle, before the LORD , and the land shall be subdued before you; then ye shall give them the land of Gilead for a possession: 30 But if they will not pass over with you armed, they shall have possessions among you in the land of Canaan.” 31 And the children of Gad and the children of Reuben answered, saying, “As the LORD hath said unto thy servants, so will we do. 32 We will pass over armed before the LORD into the land of Canaan, that the possession of our inheritance on this side Jordan may be ours.” 33 And Moses gave unto them, even to the children of Gad, and to the children of Reuben, and unto half the tribe of Manasseh the son of Joseph, the kingdom of Sihon king of the Amorites, and the kingdom of Og king of Bashan, the land, with the cities thereof in the coasts, even the cities of the country round about. 34 And the children of Gad built Dibon, and Ataroth, and Aroer, 35 And Atroth, Shophan, and Jaazer, and Jogbehah, 36 And Bethnimrah, and Beth-haran, fenced cities: and folds for sheep. Numbers 34:13–15: 13 And Moses commanded the children of Israel, saying, “This is the land which ye shall inherit by lot, which the LORD commanded to give unto the nine tribes, and to the half tribe: 14 For the tribe of the children of Reuben according to the house of their fathers, and the tribe of the children of Gad according to the house of their fathers, have received their inheritance; and half the tribe of Manasseh have received their inheritance: 15 The two tribes and the half tribe have received their inheritance on this side Jordan near Jericho eastward, toward the sunrising.” Deuteronomy 3:12–20: 12 And this land, which we possessed at that time, from Aroer, which is by the river Arnon, and half mount Gilead, and the cities thereof, gave I unto the Reubenites and to the Gadites. 13 And the rest of Gilead, and all Bashan, being the kingdom of Og, gave I unto the half tribe of Manasseh; all the region of Argob, with all Bashan, which was called the land of giants. 14 (Jair the son of Manasseh took all the country of Argob unto the coasts of Geshuri and Maachathi; and called them after his own name, Bashan-havoth-jair, unto this day.) 15 And I gave Gilead unto Machir. 16 And unto the Reubenites and unto the Gadites I gave from Gilead even unto the river Arnon half the valley, and the border even unto the river Jabbok, which is the border of the children of Ammon; 17 The plain also, and Jordan, and the coast thereof, from Chinnereth even unto the sea of the plain, even the salt sea, under Ashdoth-pisgah eastward. 18 And I commanded you at that time, saying, ‘The LORD your God hath given you this land to possess it: ye shall pass over armed before your brethren the children of Israel, all that are meet for the war. 19 But your wives, and your little ones, and your cattle, (for I know that ye have much cattle,) shall abide in your cities which I have given you; 20 Until the LORD 12
have given rest unto your brethren, as well as unto you, and until they also possess the land which the LORD your God hath given them beyond Jordan: and then shall ye return every man unto his possession, which I have given you.’
The Covenant With Israel in the Land of Moab Deuteronomy 29:5–9: 5 And I have led you forty years in the wilderness: your clothes are not waxen old upon you, and thy shoe is not waxen old upon thy foot. 6 Ye have not eaten bread, neither have ye drunk wine or strong drink: that ye might know that I am the LORD your God. 7 And when ye came unto this place, Sihon the king of Heshbon, and Og the king of Bashan, came out against us unto battle, and we smote them: 8 And we took their land, and gave it for an inheritance unto the Reubenites, and to the Gadites, and to the half tribe of Manasseh. 9 Keep therefore the words of this covenant, and do them, that ye may prosper in all that ye do.
Joshua Reminds Gadites of Moses’ Instruction Joshua 1:12–18: 12 And to the Reubenites, and to the Gadites, and to half the tribe of Manasseh, spake Joshua, saying, 13 “Remember the word which Moses the servant of the LORD commanded you, saying, ‘The LORD your God hath given you rest, and hath given you this land.’ 14 Your wives, your little ones, and your cattle, shall remain in the land which Moses gave you on this side Jordan; but ye shall pass before your brethren armed, all the mighty men of valour, and help them; 15 Until the LORD have given your brethren rest, as He hath given you, and they also have possessed the land which the LORD your God giveth them: then ye shall return unto the land of your possession, and enjoy it, which Moses the LORD ’s servant gave you on this side Jordan toward the sunrising.” 16 And they answered Joshua, saying, “All that thou commandest us we will do, and whithersoever thou sendest us, we will go. 17 According as we hearkened unto Moses in all things, so will we hearken unto thee: only the LORD thy God be with thee, as He was with Moses. 18 Whosoever he be that doth rebel against thy commandment, and will not hearken unto thy words in all that thou commandest him, he shall be put to death: only be strong and of a good courage.”
Gad’s Territory from Canaanite Conquests Joshua 12:1–6: 1 Now these are the kings of the land, which the children of Israel smote, and possessed their land on the other side Jordan toward the rising of the sun, from the river Arnon unto mount Hermon, and all the plain on the east: 2 Sihon king of the Amorites, who dwelt in Heshbon, and ruled from Aroer, which is upon the bank of the river Arnon, and from the middle of the river, and from half Gilead, even unto the river Jabbok, which is the border of the children of Ammon; 3 And from the plain to the sea of Chinneroth on the east, and unto the sea of the plain, even the salt sea on the east, the way to Bethjeshimoth; and from the south, under Ashdoth-pisgah: 4 And the coast of Og king of Bashan 13
(which was of the remnant of the giants) that dwelt at Ashtaroth and at Edrei, 5 And reigned in mount Hermon, and in Salcah, and in all Bashan, unto the border of the Geshurites and the Maachathites, and half Gilead, the border of Sihon king of Heshbon. 6 Them did Moses the servant of the LORD and the children of Israel smite: and Moses the servant of the LORD gave it for a possession unto the Reubenites, and the Gadites, and the half tribe of Manasseh.
Joshua Charges Gadites to Accept Their Inheritance Joshua 13:7–14; 24–28: 7 Now therefore divide this land for an inheritance unto the nine tribes, and the half tribe of Manasseh, 8 With whom the Reubenites and the Gadites have received their inheritance, which Moses gave them, beyond Jordan eastward, even as Moses the servant of the LORD gave them; 9 From Aroer, that is upon the bank of the river Arnon, and the city that is in the midst of the river, and all the plain of Medeba unto Dibon; 10 And all the cities of Sihon king of the Amorites, which reigned in Heshbon, unto the border of the children of Ammon; 11 And Gilead, and the border of the Geshurites and Maachathites, and all mount Hermon, and all Bashan unto Salcah; 12 All the kingdom of Og in Bashan, which reigned in Ashtaroth and in Edrei, who remained of the remnant of the giants: for these did Moses smite, and cast them out.” 13 Nevertheless the children of Israel expelled not the Geshurites, nor the Maachathites: but the Geshurites and the Maachathites dwell among the Israelites until this day. 14 Only unto the tribe of Levi he gave none inheritance; the sacrifices of the LORD God of Israel made by fire are their inheritance, as He said unto them. 24 And Moses gave inheritance unto the tribe of Gad, even unto the children of Gad according to their families. 25 And their coast was Jazer, and all the cities of Gilead, and half the land of the children of Ammon, unto Aroer that is before Rabbah; 26 And from Heshbon unto Ramath-mizpeh, and Betonim; and from Mahanaim unto the border of Debir; 27 And in the valley, Beth-aram, and Beth-nimrah, and Succoth, and Zaphon, the rest of the kingdom of Sihon king of Heshbon, Jordan and his border, even unto the edge of the sea of Chinnereth on the other side Jordan eastward. 28 This is the inheritance of the children of Gad after their families, the cities, and their villages. Joshua 18:7: 7 But the Levites have no part among you; for the priesthood of the LORD is their inheritance: and Gad, and Reuben, and half the tribe of Manasseh, have received their inheritance beyond Jordan on the east, which Moses the servant of the LORD gave them.”
Ramoth in Gilead a City of Refuge in Gad’s Territory Deuteronomy 4:41–43: 41 Then Moses severed three cities on this side Jordan toward the sunrising; 42 That the slayer might flee thither, which should kill his neighbour unawares, and hated him not in times past; and that fleeing unto one of these cities he might live: 43 Namely, Bezer in the wilderness, in the plain country, of the Reubenites; and Ramoth in 14
Gilead, of the Gadites; and Golan in Bashan, of the Manassites. Joshua 20:1–9: 1 The LORD also spake unto Joshua, saying, 2 “Speak to the children of Israel, saying, ‘Appoint out for you cities of refuge, whereof I spake unto you by the hand of Moses: 3 That the slayer that killeth any person unawares and unwittingly may flee thither: and they shall be your refuge from the avenger of blood. 4 And when he that doth flee unto one of those cities shall stand at the entering of the gate of the city, and shall declare his cause in the ears of the elders of that city, they shall take him into the city unto them, and give him a place, that he may dwell among them. 5 And if the avenger of blood pursue after him, then they shall not deliver the slayer up into his hand; because he smote his neighbour unwittingly, and hated him not beforetime. 6 And he shall dwell in that city, until he stand before the congregation for judgment, and until the death of the high priest that shall be in those days: then shall the slayer return, and come unto his own city, and unto his own house, unto the city from whence he fled.’” 7 And they appointed Kedesh in Galilee in mount Naphtali, and Shechem in mount Ephraim, and Kirjath-arba, which is Hebron, in the mountain of Judah. 8 And on the other side Jordan by Jericho eastward, they assigned Bezer in the wilderness upon the plain out of the tribe of Reuben, and Ramoth in Gilead out of the tribe of Gad, and Golan in Bashan out of the tribe of Manasseh. 9 These were the cities appointed for all the children of Israel, and for the stranger that sojourneth among them, that whosoever killeth any person at unawares might flee thither, and not die by the hand of the avenger of blood, until he stood before the congregation.
Levite Cities Assigned to Children of Merari in Gad’s Territory Joshua 21:7: 7 The children of Merari by their families had out of the tribe of Reuben, and out of the tribe of Gad, and out of the tribe of Zebulun, twelve cities. I Chronicles 6:63: 63 Unto the sons of Merari were given by lot, throughout their families, out of the tribe of Reuben, and out of the tribe of Gad, and out of the tribe of Zebulun, twelve cities. Joshua 21:34–42: 34 And unto the families of the children of Merari, the rest of the Levites, out of the tribe of Zebulun, Jokneam with her suburbs, and Kartah with her suburbs, 35 Dimnah with her suburbs, Nahalal with her suburbs; four cities. 36 And out of the tribe of Reuben, Bezer with her suburbs, and Jahazah with her suburbs, 37 Kedemoth with her suburbs, and Mephaath with her suburbs; four cities. 38 And out of the tribe of Gad, Ramoth in Gilead with her suburbs, to be a city of refuge for the slayer; and Mahanaim with her suburbs, 39 Heshbon with her suburbs, Jazer with her suburbs; four cities in all. 40 So all the cities for the children of Merari by their families, which were remaining of the families of the Levites, were by their lot twelve cities. 41 All the cities of the Levites within the possession of the children of Israel were forty and eight cities with their suburbs. 42 These cities were every one with their suburbs round about them: thus were all these 15
cities. I Chronicles 6:77–81: 77 Unto the rest of the children of Merari were given out of the tribe of Zebulun, Rimmon with her suburbs, Tabor with her suburbs: 78 And on the other side Jordan by Jericho, on the east side of Jordan, were given them out of the tribe of Reuben, Bezer in the wilderness with her suburbs, and Jahzah with her suburbs, 79 Kedemoth also with her suburbs, and Mephaath with her suburbs: 80 And out of the tribe of Gad; Ramoth in Gilead with her suburbs, and Mahanaim with her suburbs, 81 And Heshbon with her suburbs, and Jazer with her suburbs.
Gad’s Territory in the Promised Land Joshua 22:1–6: 1 Then Joshua called the Reubenites, and the Gadites, and the half tribe of Manasseh, 2 And said unto them, “Ye have kept all that Moses the servant of the LORD commanded you, and have obeyed my voice in all that I commanded you: 3 Ye have not left your brethren these many days unto this day, but have kept the charge of the commandment of the LORD your God. 4 And now the LORD your God hath given rest unto your brethren, as He promised them: therefore now return ye, and get you unto your tents, and unto the land of your possession, which Moses the servant of the LORD gave you on the other side Jordan. 5 But take diligent heed to do the commandment and the law, which Moses the servant of the LORD charged you, to love the LORD your God, and to walk in all His ways, and to keep His commandments, and to cleave unto Him, and to serve Him with all your heart and with all your soul.” 6 So Joshua blessed them, and sent them away: and they went unto their tents.
Ed—An Altar of Witness Joshua 22:8–34: 8 And he spake unto them, saying, “Return with much riches unto your tents, and with very much cattle, with silver, and with gold, and with brass, and with iron, and with very much raiment: divide the spoil of your enemies with your brethren.” 9 And the children of Reuben and the children of Gad and the half tribe of Manasseh returned, and departed from the children of Israel out of Shiloh, which is in the land of Canaan, to go unto the country of Gilead, to the land of their possession, whereof they were possessed, according to the word of the LORD by the hand of Moses. 10 And when they came unto the borders of Jordan, that are in the land of Canaan, the children of Reuben and the children of Gad and the half tribe of Manasseh built there an altar by Jordan, a great altar to see to. 11 And the children of Israel heard say, “Behold, the children of Reuben and the children of Gad and the half tribe of Manasseh have built an altar over against the land of Canaan, in the borders of Jordan, at the passage of the children of Israel.” 12 And when the children of Israel heard of it, the whole congregation of the children of Israel gathered themselves together at Shiloh, to go up to war against them. 13 And the children of Israel sent unto the children of Reuben, and to the children of Gad, and to the half tribe of Manasseh, into the 16
land of Gilead, Phinehas the son of Eleazar the priest, 14 And with him ten princes, of each chief house a prince throughout all the tribes of Israel; and each one was an head of the house of their fathers among the thousands of Israel. 15 And they came unto the children of Reuben, and to the children of Gad, and to the half tribe of Manasseh, unto the land of Gilead, and they spake with them, saying, 16 “Thus saith the whole congregation of the LORD , ‘What trespass is this that ye have committed against the God of Israel, to turn away this day from following the LORD , in that ye have builded you an altar, that ye might rebel this day against the LORD ? 17 Is the iniquity of Peor too little for us, from which we are not cleansed until this day, although there was a plague in the congregation of the LORD , 18 But that ye must turn away this day from following the LORD ? and it will be, seeing ye rebel to day against the LORD , that to morrow He will be wroth with the whole congregation of Israel. 19 Notwithstanding, if the land of your possession be unclean, then pass ye over unto the land of the possession of the LORD , wherein the LORD ’s tabernacle dwelleth, and take possession among us: but rebel not against the LORD , nor rebel against us, in building you an altar beside the altar of the LORD our God. 20 Did not Achan the son of Zerah commit a trespass in the accursed thing, and wrath fell on all the congregation of Israel? and that man perished not alone in his iniquity.’” 21 Then the children of Reuben and the children of Gad and the half tribe of Manasseh answered, and said unto the heads of the thousands of Israel, 22 “The LORD GOD of gods, the LORD GOD of gods, He knoweth, and Israel He shall know; if it be in rebellion, or if in transgression against the LORD , (save us not this day,) 23 That we have built us an altar to turn from following the LORD , or if to offer thereon burnt offering or meat offering, or if to offer peace offerings thereon, let the LORD Himself require it; 24 And if we have not rather done it for fear of this thing, saying, ‘In time to come your children might speak unto our children, saying, “What have ye to do with the LORD God of Israel?” ’ 25 For the LORD hath made Jordan a border between us and you, ye children of Reuben and children of Gad; ye have no part in the LORD : so shall your children make our children cease from fearing the LORD . 26 Therefore we said, ‘Let us now prepare to build us an altar,’ not for burnt offering, nor for sacrifice: 27 But that it may be a witness between us, and you, and our generations after us, that we might do the service of the LORD before Him with our burnt offerings, and with our sacrifices, and with our peace offerings; that your children may not say to our children in time to come, ‘Ye have no part in the LORD .’ 28 Therefore said we, that it shall be, when they should so say to us or to our generations in time to come, that we may say again, ‘Behold the pattern of the altar of the LORD , which our fathers made, not for burnt offerings, nor for sacrifices; but it is a witness between us and you.’ 29 God forbid that we should rebel against the LORD , and turn this day from following the LORD , to build an altar for burnt offerings, for meat offerings, or for sacrifices, beside the altar of the LORD our God that is before His tabernacle.” 30 And when Phinehas the priest, and the princes of the congregation and heads of the thousands of Israel which were with him, heard the words that the children of Reuben and the children of Gad and the children of Manasseh spake, it pleased them. 31 And Phinehas the son of Eleazar the priest said unto the children of Reuben, and to the children of Gad, and to the children of Manasseh, “This day we perceive that the LORD is among us, because ye have not committed this trespass against the LORD : now ye have delivered the children of Israel out 17
of the hand of the LORD .” 32 And Phinehas the son of Eleazar the priest, and the princes, returned from the children of Reuben, and from the children of Gad, out of the land of Gilead, unto the land of Canaan, to the children of Israel, and brought them word again. 33 And the thing pleased the children of Israel; and the children of Israel blessed God, and did not intend to go up against them in battle, to destroy the land wherein the children of Reuben and Gad dwelt. 34 And the children of Reuben and the children of Gad called the altar Ed: for it shall be a witness between us that the LORD is God.
Sealing of the End Times Revelation 7:5: 5 Of the tribe of Juda were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Reuben were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Gad were sealed twelve thousand.

Gadite Stories Eliasaph’s Offering for the Dedicating of the Altar on the Sixth Day Numbers 7:1–6; 11; 42–47: 1 And it came to pass on the day that Moses had fully set up the tabernacle, and had anointed it, and sanctified it, and all the instruments thereof, both the altar and all the vessels thereof, and had anointed them, and sanctified them; 2 That the princes of Israel, heads of the house of their fathers, who were the princes of the tribes, and were over them that were numbered, offered: 3 And they brought their offering before the LORD , six covered wagons, and twelve oxen; a wagon for two of the princes, and for each one an ox: and they brought them before the tabernacle. 4 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, 5 “Take it of them, that they may be to do the service of the tabernacle of the congregation; and thou shalt give them unto the Levites, to every man according to his service.” 6 And Moses took the wagons and the oxen, and gave them unto the Levites. Zurishaddai. 42 On the sixth day Eliasaph the son of Deuel, prince of the children of Gad, offered: 43 His offering was one silver charger of the weight of an hundred and thirty shekels, a silver bowl of seventy shekels, after the shekel of the sanctuary; both of them full of fine flour mingled with oil for a meat offering: 44 One golden spoon of ten shekels, full of incense: 45 One young bullock, one ram, one lamb of the first year, for a burnt offering: 46 One kid of the goats for a sin offering: 47 And for a sacrifice of peace offerings, two oxen, five rams, five he goats, five lambs of the first year: this was the offering of Eliasaph the son of Deuel.

Moses’ Blessing to Gad Deuteronomy 33:20–21: 20 And of Gad he said, “Blessed be He That enlargeth Gad: He dwelleth as a lion, And teareth the arm with the crown of the head. 21 And he provided the first part for himself, Because there, in a portion of the lawgiver, was he seated; and he came with the heads of the people, he executed the justice of the LORD , and His judgments with Israel.”
Land of Gad Mentioned in Battle Against the Philistines I Samuel 13:1–7: 1 Saul reigned one year; and when he had reigned two years over Israel, 2 Saul chose him three thousand men of Israel; whereof two thousand were with Saul in Michmash and in mount Beth-el, and a thousand were with Jonathan in Gibeah of Benjamin: 19
and the rest of the people he sent every man to his tent. 3 And Jonathan smote the garrison of the Philistines that was in Geba, and the Philistines heard of it. And Saul blew the trumpet throughout all the land, saying, ‘Let the Hebrews hear.’ 4 And all Israel heard say that Saul had smitten a garrison of the Philistines, and that Israel also was had in abomination with the Philistines. And the people were called together after Saul to Gilgal. 5 And the Philistines gathered themselves together to fight with Israel, thirty thousand chariots, and six thousand horsemen, and people as the sand which is on the sea shore in multitude: and they came up, and pitched in Michmash, eastward from Beth-aven. 6 When the men of Israel saw that they were in a strait, (for the people were distressed,) then the people did hide themselves in caves, and in thickets, and in rocks, and in high places, and in pits. 7 And some of the Hebrews went over Jordan to the land of Gad and Gilead. As for Saul, he was yet in Gilgal, and all the people followed him trembling.
Gadites Side With David Against Saul I Chronicles 12:1;8–15: 1 Now these are they that came to David to Ziklag, while he yet kept himself close because of Saul the son of Kish: and they were among the mighty men, helpers of the war. 8 And of the Gadites there separated themselves unto David into the hold to the wilderness men of might, and men of war fit for the battle, that could handle shield and buckler, whose faces were like the faces of lions, and were as swift as the roes upon the mountains; 9 Ezer the first, Obadiah the second, Eliab the third, 10 Mishmannah the fourth, Jeremiah the fifth, 11 Attai the sixth, Eliel the seventh, 12 Johanan the eighth, Elzabad the ninth, 13 Jeremiah the tenth, Machbanai the eleventh. 14 These were of the sons of Gad, captains of the host: one of the least was over an hundred, and the greatest over a thousand. 15 These are they that went over Jordan in the first month, when it had overflown all his banks; and they put to flight all them of the valleys, both toward the east, and toward the west.

Hazael Afflicts Gadites II Kings 10:30–33: 30 And the LORD said unto Jehu, “Because thou hast done well in executing that which is right in Mine eyes, and hast done unto the house of Ahab according to all that was in Mine heart, thy children of the fourth generation shall sit on the throne of Israel.” 31 But Jehu took no heed to walk in the law of the LORD God of Israel with all his heart: for he departed not from the sins of Jeroboam, which made Israel to sin. 32 In those days the LORD began to cut Israel short: and Hazael smote them in all the coasts of Israel; 33 From Jordan eastward, all the land of Gilead, the Gadites, and the Reubenites, and the Manassites, from Aroer, which is by the river Arnon, even Gilead and Bashan. Gadites Carried Away Captive I Chronicles 5:25–26: 25 And they transgressed against the God of their fathers, and went a whoring after the gods of the people of the land, whom God destroyed before them. 26 And the God of Israel stirred up the spirit of Pul king of Assyria, and the spirit of Tilgath-pilneser king of Assyria, and he carried them away, even the Reubenites, and the Gadites, and the half tribe of Manasseh, and brought them unto Halah, and Habor, and Hara, and to the river Gozan, unto this day.
