Important Dates in Fall Semester 







Late September: Early warning progress reports October 19: Last day to drop/ declare a course Pass/D+/D/Fail November 5: First-year registration begins December 11-18: Exams

Academic Eligibility You must achieve minimum hours and minimum GPA  

To enter FY Spring • 9 academic hours passed at Carolina • 2.0 cumulative Carolina GPA

To enter SO Fall • 9 hours passed in spring • 24 academic hours passed at Carolina • 2.0 cumulative Carolina GPA

If you don’t meet criteria, talk to an advisor ASAP!!! If GPA not met, get one semester probation If hours not met, ineligible until rectified Required hours increase every semester

Different Pharmacy Options 

Doctor of Pharmacy Degree (PharmD) Pharmacist • Community, hospital, managed care, pharmaceutical industry, long-term care, consulting, academia, drug development, drug information, etc.



Additional educational options • Residency/Fellowship • Master’s degree • Doctoral degree

Pharmacy Program Overview 

Minimum 2 yr preparation • Most applicants have 3 or more years of coursework



Four year PharmD program • NOT Bachelor’s degree!!!



Pharmacy course schedule • First 3 years classroom instruction • 10 required clerkships 

1 in the summer after the first and second year



8 during the fourth year

Honors Program Preparation 

Things you can do in 1st and 2nd years: •1) Maintain an overall GPA of at least 3.2. •2) Read about research. Search the OUR database for research opportunities. Think about the types of research that you would like to do. Talk to faculty about research options in their labs or other labs on campus. •3) Work to achieve mastery of research skills. Take lab and core courses as soon as this is feasible in terms of your schedule and course availability. •4) Consider volunteering or working in a research lab during the summer – some programs carry a stipend! •5) Contact the Honors advisor in your major department for additional information.
