Fuel Management, Ship Performance and Energy Efficiency SEMINAR Tuesday 26th - Wednesday 27th January 2010 Prospero House, London

Managing the challenges ahead Lloyd's Maritime Academy are pleased to present this seminar on fuel management, ship performance and energy efficiency which will examine the design and operation of fuel efficient ships. Expert speakers will analyse the energy output of different vessel types and how this impacts on costs and on emissions. They will look at current and future methods of reducing fuel consumption, and will highlight how to raise awareness both onboard and onshore on best practice for fuel management and greater ship efficiency. In today's economic climate, fuel management and energy efficiency have risen to the top of the agenda for every ship owner and operator. Although fuel prices have gone down again recently, as a long term prospect they are likely to rise substantially and it is imperative to take action now to avoid future costs. In addition to the costs of energy output, there are also environmental and regulatory issues to consider which impact on fuel management: amendments to MARPOL Annex VI, CO2 indexing for both design, operations, potential future EU legislation and the inclusion of shipping in a climate change carbon trading scheme or other market-based instruments. In particular you will: • • • • •

Understand the design process and how to maximize efficiency options at the design phase Discover how developments in engine design and propulsion system optimisation can assist in fuel efficiency Find out how other energy saving options such as waste heat recovery can be utilised to maximum effect Learn how to make energy savings not only during the voyage but also in port Hear from shipowners and operators on best practice and practical solutions
