T

wo Minnedosa rugby players have been invited to attend a Rugby Canada U17 selection camp in BC next month. Thomas Roche and Brady Ingenmey are two of only four Manitoba players invited to the camp, which will take place November 5th to 9th at Shawnigan School on Vancouver Island. Two groups of players will be selected from this camp. One will represent Canada U17 in San Diego in late December - early January, while the other team will play numerous teams from BC in February and March. From here, the final Canada U17 squad will be chosen. The final team will represent the country at the Wellington Festival in England during Easter 2010.

ecently, local RCMP members collected a number of healthy, freshly harvested marijuana plants from a secluded growing field just outside town limits. The growing field was discovered earlier this summer in a well-hidden, forested area northeast of Minnedosa, directly east of Lake Minnedosa. Upon discovery of the field, RCMP continued to observe the area keeping a close eye on the growing methods, progress and cultivation of the crop throughout the summer using unconventional investigative techniques. The entire observation was conducted by police unbeknownst to the grower(s) responsible for the planting and care of the crop until such time that the plants were pulled and hung to dry. That’s when RCMP moved in and removed the plants from the site. In total, RCMP collected a number of plants which have an estimated street value of $25,000. Although the plants have been seized, this file is not closed. Local RCMP members continue their investigation in this matter and other drug related matters in Minnedosa. Combatting the drug problem in the Minendosa area is the top priority of local RCMP. According to the recent third quarter report for the Minnedosa Detachment, local members have dealt with a total of 50 drug related incidents so far this year. That is the highest number of drug related busts and charges in the past five years.
