NATIONAL CAMPAIGN FOR FOOD AND FREEDOM BURMA -2008

National Campaign for Food and Freedom  Immediate Release  August 28, 2008    We, the undersigned Burmese civic organizations around the world have been following the news of  Daw Aung San Su Kyi's situation with a grave concern.  We believe that she is on a hunger strike in order  to protest her illegal detention and the United Nations special envoy's failure to initiate a genuine  dialogue and national reconciliation.  The Burmese military regime has so far denied that Daw Aung San  Suu Kyi is on a hunger strike.  In fact, nobody has seen her in person for two weeks and nobody knows  how her health is.  Her health is in terrible danger if in fact she has been on a hunger strike for two  weeks.    We ask international governments, non‐government organizations and concern citizens of the world to  intervene immediately by calling upon the Burmese military regime to allow physicians, visitors and  diplomats to see Daw Aung San Suu Kyi.   Saving her life means saving the future of Burma.   Time is of  the essence.
