FRACTION MATHEMATICAL QUANTITY DEFINATIONS 1. Fraction is an expression that indicates one or more equal parts of whole , usually these parts are separated by a line . Upper part of the expression is called as the numerator and the lower part is called as denominator. OR 2. Fraction is the identity which represents small portion of a whole thing .

OR 3. A fraction is the mathematical way of expressing a value less than a whole. 4. There are different ways of writing a fraction :-> e.g . Two – fifth of a object can be written as, a. A common fraction……….2/5 b. A decimal………….. …… 0.5 c. A percentage………………40%] 1. What is numerator ? Numerator tells about that how many parts is in the fraction . 2. What is Denominator ? Denominator tells about how many equal parts is in the whole object. e.g 2/4

Note :- DENOMINATOR can never be 0 DENOMINATOR ≠ 0 Types of Fractions :-

Proper Fraction :- In this case numerator is < than Denominator

eg 1/2 , 2/5 , 19/20 2. Improper Fraction :- Here Numerator is > than Denominator eg 7/2, 5/2, 10/3 3. Equvalent Fraction:- When Numerator = Denominator eg 5/5, 8/2, 8/4 4.
