Undergraduate Four-Year Planner

Freshmen (0-29 units, 100 level courses) Freshmen should take the required business foundation courses consisting of economics and math, as well as writing courses in their first year. These foundation courses are the necessary prerequisites for sophomore year. Unlike other business majors, Hospitality Industry Management majors begin taking required major courses starting in the freshman year. Freshmen entering the Business School in Fall 2008 or later will also enroll in a Freshman Special Topic and Freshman Professional Development Workshop concurrently in their first year. The remaining units may be used to either complete other University Core requirements or electives. Recommended freshmen level University Core courses are at the 100 level.

Sophomore (30-59 units, 200 level courses) Sophomore business majors should take accounting and quantitative business courses in their second year. During this second year it is recommended that students balance business courses with 200 level University Core courses. All writing requirements should be completed by the end of the sophomore year. Junior (60-89 units, 300 level courses) Starting in the first term of junior year, it is recommended that students take the business core course for their major. As an example, Marketing majors should take the Marketing Management course. This allows time for the student to begin taking specified major courses in the second term. It is recommended that Accounting majors begin their initial major requirement, Intermediate Accounting I, in the first term of their junior year. During this year students should complete their remaining University core requirements. Additionally, all students should file their Application to Graduate at the conclusion of junior year.

Senior (90+ units, 300 & 400 level courses) Senior year students should complete any remaining 300 level Business core courses by the first term. These courses are a prerequisite for the Senior Capstone course which brings together and applies the knowledge and skills learned in the business core. Depending on their major, students will select either Strategic Management or Entrepreneurship/Business Plan Development as their capstone course.
