Commonly Used Pediatric Drugs Amoxicillin N: Treatment of infections caused by susceptible organisms eg, lower resp tract infections, UTI, skin & soft tissue infections, GI infections, upper resp tract infections, severe systemic infection D: 40 mg/kg/d q 8 hrs P: 250 mg/5 mL Cefalexin N: Treatment of susceptible infections of biliary, resp, urinary tract & skin. D: 25-50 mg/kg/d q 6 hrs P: Susp 125 mg/5 mL x 60 mL, 100 mg/5 mL x 5 mL Chloramphenicol N: Salmonella infections, shigellosis, rickettsial infection, meningitis, brain abscess & pulmonary infections, which do not respond to standard antimicrobial agents. D: 50-100 mg/kg/d q 6 hrs P: Ped susp 125 mg/5 mL x 60 mL Cloxacillin N: Staph infections including skin & soft tissue, bone & joint, resp & UTI; otitis media, endocarditis, septicemia, meningitis. Also for the relief of primary dysmenorrhea. D: Cap 1 cap tid. P: 500 mg, 250 mg Diclofenac N: Inflammatory & degenerative forms of rheumatism, RA, ankylosing spondylitis, osteoarthritis, non-articular rheumatism. Acute attack of gout. Renal & biliary colic. Painful post-op inflammation & swelling-like dental & orthopedic surgery. Primary dysmenorrhea. D: Tab Initially, 100-150 mg. Long-term & milder cases 75-100 mg divided in 2-3 fractional doses.
