1.1. Tools required for Maintenance and Repair

10. Fault Diagnosis Under normal operation conditions and with no vehicle present all the ‘Proceed LEDs should be illuminated in the GEE cabinets. This is with the exception of some GEE boxes situated on the roundabout were the yellow inhibit LED is on permanently on the in fills, merges and diverges. The fault diagnoses should be carried out using the ATS trolley with the Redcliffe monitoring system. The proceed signals may be lost momentarily as the receivers approach loop boundaries, this is normal and should be expected. Only when the proceed /speed signals are lost for a sustained section of the loop will indicate a problem. The trolley should be pulled along the guideway and the six measurements visually monitored. Checks should be made for loss of proceed signal strength (F1 & F2). The signal strength should never fall below 1000 mV anywhere on the guideway The signal strength on the roundabout will be lower than that of the straight sections due to the wider loop widths on the merges and diverges. Measurements on the trolley differ to those of the vehicle, so these measurements are for indicating faults, not for accurate readings. Commercial In Confidence

The vehicle box and monitoring system can be remove from the trolley and fitted to an ATS vehicle in order to obtain more accurate measurements. Note. This procedure should be carried out whenever a repair or calibration is completed

Monitor System Faults The support required here is to process and relay on to Central Control the alarm messages provided by the AVP. The messages can be processed to locate faulty loops by: •

Vehicle undetected - noting gaps in the ‘Loop Occupied’ sequence as the vehicle passes and/or appearance of the ‘Detector Fail’ signal.



Loops not transmitting – no ‘Proceed On’ signal from one or more loops when not inhibited, and/or appearance of the ‘Proceed Signal/Inhibit Fail’ signal.



Failure to inhibit loops correctly – no or spurious ‘Loop Inhibited’ signals when expected, and/or appearance of the ‘Proceed Signal/Inhibit Fail’ signal. Listed below are the faults that could be detected by the control room.

17.8.Pre-amp faults Gain of Preamp too high If the gain of the preamp has become too high it is possible for the preamp in that loop to detect a vehicle too early and inhibit itself. This faults would cause a dropout of proceed signal on that side. This fault could also affect loops in close proximity such as at merges and diverges. Gain of Preamp too Low The vehicle may lose the proceed signal in the loop controlled by the faulty preamp.

Faults between GEE Cabinets The system is design that if a fault should occur between cabinets the system would fail safe and permanently inhibit the affected loops.

17.12.Loss of proceed signal on one or both side

Check Master sync PCB. Note. Sync LED will only be illuminated if a fault is present. Refer to Master Sync FAT test.

Yes Replace the oscillator PCB, if this doesn’t solve the problem replace the slave sync PCB.

Possible connection fault between GEE cabinets. (Refer to Vehicle Fig 6 System Oscillator) .This shows the interconnections of No Diverging – the ‘sync’ signal between GEEs.
