Concept Statement

Pineapples are quirky fruits which are composed of multiple little fruitlets. When these individual fruitlets are fused together, they display a variety of vibrant colors and various geometric shapes. The Pop Artist Andy Warhol relates to a pineapple in many ways; He was a quirky man who was obsessed with fame. Starting out his career as a commercial illustrator he adopted silkscreen techniques and developed his own original art style. Warhol is known for taking a single image and replicating it throughout a canvas with a variety of vibrant colors. His artworks were often controversial due to the fact that they he “mass produced” them. In response to this controversy he stated “Art is what you can get away with...” -Andy Warhol In relation to the pop artist Andy Warhol, his quotes, and the juicy pineapple fruit, The room project developed. By abstracting an image of an individual fruitlet and implying many of Warhol’s techniques, the 2-D concept model emerged. An abstract image of an individual pineapple friutlet was replicated four times throughout the canvas, using a stencil and a selection of bright colored paints. To convert this 2-D image into a room, various geometric shapes were transformed into walls and a combination of seating arrangements.
