As a result of this PK12 field experience, what did you learn about: Yourself as a teacher. When I walked into Mrs. Fusi’s classroom for the first time for this field experience I didn’t know what to expect. I walked in with a student’s heart ready to absorb as much as I could. I learned that my way of teaching, my teacher’s heart, and my mindset is very similar as Mrs. Fusi’s. We are both very passionate about teaching and inspiring our students. I realized that I never get comfortable with what I’m doing. I always like to see what else could be changed about the way I am as a teacher. After the observations, I’ve been more aware at my student’s body language towards my teaching to see what things I could change. I learned that I’m very hard on myself. I’m my worst critic. While some people might say that I shouldn’t be so hard on myself since this is my first year teaching, I find that when I’m my worst critic, I never stop pushing myself to improve everything around me that involves students and teaching.

The TPEs. One of the things that impressed me about Mrs. Fusi is the way she connected the content to Real Life. The

moment she began giving an example of something that had happened to her, all the students were paying close attention without even noticing that they were about to learn math in such a different way. I’ve learned how to use a various amount of strategies to assist English Learners and SPED students. I’ve also learned different technology applications that can help me in my classroom for formative assessments. How to get Inspired, and/or Inspire learners. To get inspired, I have to maintain myself with the correct mindset at all times. Why do I wake up every morning to go to work? If my job more like a “I have to do it” or “I want to do it”? If develop my passion and love for teaching each day, I am constantly open for inspiration wherever I go. Whether I’m in a staff meeting, a department meeting, or on social media looking at other teachers around the world, I can always be inspired by the things that those teachers are implementing in their classrooms. This then will lead me to inspire my students. My life has been my major inspiring story. The amount of years I put in to my Bachelor’s degree, the dedication I put into my studies, and the hard work all paid off. My students ask me: “Ms. Picon, look at you! You have new shoes!” My usual response is that I was able to get myself some nice new shoes simply because I now have a job where I can afford to buy things like that every now and then. It didn’t come easy. I had to study, work at a fast-food restaurant to pay for things like gas and books, and I had to spend all-nighters working hard to complete homework to get really good grades to pass my classes. I love seeing their reactions. Teaching practices and strategies. Of all the things that I learned as I observed Mrs. Fusi, I mostly learned from her teaching strategies. When it came to group work, she wouldn’t just group the students randomly. She would sit the students strategically in the way that low-score students were grouped with high-scored students. This would help the low-scored students learn in a better way. I learned about checks for understanding, procedures, and about testing.



As the teacher candidate, I verify the information found on this log represents the characteristics for the field experience classroom used for this assignment.
