PRAYERS FOR THE DECEASED: We pray for our loved ones who have died recently especially Gilbert Scharff. PRAYERS FOR THE SICK AND SHUT-IN: “Let us raise up in prayer those who seek God’s healing love, those at the hospital, hospice and at home. May your struggle be consoled by Christ’s love.
THE YEAR OF ST. PAUL – Bimillennium of St. Paul’s Birth We will celebrate this Pauline Year (June 28, 2008 to June 29, 2009) with a Parish Mission ►MARCH 7 – 11◄ facilitated by Fr. Rick Walsh of the Paulist Community in Toronto. The Beginning of the Ministry
“Three years later”, Saul went up to Jerusalem to get to know Kephas (from the word “Rock” in Greek), the name he always used for Peter – and “remained with him for fifteen days” (Gal. 1:18). It is certain that the latter taught him the oral tradition relating to Jesus which Paul had not known (cf. 1 Cor. 11:23-35), as well as a Christological Interpretation of the prophets, according to what the Master taught his disciples. ADULT LEARNING OPPORTUNITY: We have three people preparing to join us at the Table of Eucharist. I will be facilitating a series of evenings on each of the sacraments – their origins in scripture, our history in developing our faith through them and a better understanding of how we celebrate them today. These weekly sessions begin this Thursday. We will explore Baptism. Everyone is welcome to join us in the church at 7:00 p.m. for about an hour of explanation and discussion. Indeed, we encourage all who can to join in building a spirit of welcome to our people who are journeying with us. WORLD DAY OF THE SICK: February 11th is our Annual World Day of the Sick Our outreach to the sick, their family members and caregivers, is a call we have by our nature as God’s children. Indeed, Jesus modeled for us a profound sense of compassion for the sick. This day gives us an opportunity for both prayer and service. Perhaps now is a time to plan on what you might do that day, and hopefully often after that day, for persons that you know who are struggling with sickness. A special time of prayer will be part of our Celebration of Eucharist at 4:15 on Wednesday, February 11th. BAPTISMS: We welcome to the Christian Community the child baptized at St. Francis Xavier last weekend. Derek Lennox and Heidi Robinson will again be leading the Monday night book club. We are hoping that our regular members will once again attend and that many new members will join us. The book we will be reading is called “My “My Jesus Year”, by Benyamin Cohen, a hilarious, inspirational exploration of Christianity from the son of an orthodox rabbi.
