February News for Mr. Earling’s Class Schedule There will be NO SCHOOL on Friday, February 13th, due to Parent-Teacher Conferences and NO SCHOOL on Monday, February 16th, due to Presidents’ Day. Parent-Teacher conferences are scheduled for Tuesday, February 10th, from 3:00-7:00 PM and Wednesday, February 11th, from 3:00-7:00 PM. Attached you will find a sign-up sheet for conferences. If you have questions about conferences, please contact me by phone (school: 883-2380, home: 886-9430) or by e-mail ([email protected]). Thank you!
Reading February 6th is the end of the 2nd Trimester, and we hope to have a lot of students in our class as members of the Chapter Reader Club (students read independently and pass tests on three chapter books) by then. We have several students that are already a Chapter Reader. YEA!!! Congratulations to those students who are Chapter readers! The rest of the class will be working hard on Reading this month! Please continue to have your child read at home. If the books your child reads or you read to your child are AR books, your child can test on those books here at school and they will count toward his/her AR goal. Many students fell behind on their goals this trimester, but they are catching up. I appreciate your help and encouragement with AR at home. Please continue to turn in your Reading Calendars, so I can write out a certificate for a FREE Personal Pan Pizza for your child. The students’ Reading Goal is 20 minutes per school night (or 5 nights a week), which was 380 minutes for January and is 360 minutes for February. Also, please remember to add up your child’s reading minutes and put it at the top of the calendar in the place given. Thank you for your help with this matter.
Math We are enjoying our Harcourt Math program, and we’ll continue working on money and time next week. I’m pleased with everyone’s progress! Additionally, our school has placed on emphasis on BASIC FACTS. Please help your child practice addition and subtraction facts at home. Thanks for your help!
Social Studies February is Black History Month, Dental Health Month, and Random Acts of Kindness Month--AND Presidents’ Day is on February 16 th. We will learn a little about all of these things this month.
Valentine’s Day Valentine’s Day will be celebrated on Thursday, February 12 th. Students in our class may bring valentines to share with friends as long as they bring one for EVERYONE in our class. I do not want anyone left out. We will make envelopes here for the valentines received by classmates, and we’ll have a party on Thursday. If you would like to provide treats or games for the party or help in anyway, please contact me. Thank you for your help! .
