Action Alert: June 11 Global Fax Action Day! Join the Campaign to Free Daw Aung San Suu Kyi Now!! We are writing to let you know about an exciting campaign we have organized, and to request your support in implementing it. As you know, Daw Aung San Suu Kyi is currently on trial in Burma on baseless charges of having violated her house arrest. The junta, State Peace and Development Council, will almost certainly extend her house arrest at minimum, but it is also possible they will take the more drastic step of keeping her imprisoned. We must do everything we can to influence the outcome of the trial. Reports from Burma indicate that the regime is uncertain about how to proceed. Now is the time for urgent action to let them know that the world is watching and will not accept any sentence other than complete freedom. In solidarity with the people of Burma, including the National League for Democracy, we are organizing a fax campaign scheduled to take place from Thursday, June 11 at 12:00AM until Friday, June 19 at 12:00 Midnight. (June 11, the day before the trial date and June 19, Daw Aung San Suu Kyi’s birthday.) We will be distributing a flyer as well as a list of fax numbers of the SPDC’s offices and embassies around the world. They will be posted at www.burmapoint.com within 24 hours before June 11. At the designated day, we ask that you send as many faxes as you can. The idea is to remind people in mid-level positions in the Burmese junta that the world is watching, that we care about what happens to Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, and that they share some responsibility for her freedom and safety.
