They lie, steal, smoke cigars, swear, and hit little kids. So no one is prepared when this outlaw family invades church one

Sunday and decides to take over the annual Christmas pageant. None of the Herdmans has ever heard the Christmas story before. Their interpretation of the tale -- the Wise Men are a bunch of dirty spies and Herod needs a good beating -- has a lot of people up in arms. But it will make this year’s pageant the most unusual anyone has seen and, just possibly, the best one ever. 12/4-6 at 8pm; 12/11 & 12 at 8pm; 12/13 at 2 & 8pm. Sundays 2pm. Little Theatre of Fall River. at the Firebarn, 340 Prospect Street. The New Orleans-formed group is a living encapsulation of American music, a vibrant cauldron of sounds that stirs together meaty grooves and jazzy dynamics, souful R&B swagger, easy vocal harmonies, cheeky rock ‘n’ roll attitude and folky social consciousness -- not to mention some of the sharpest musicianship and ensemble playing you’ll ever hear from any five musicians. It’s tight enough to be loose, but never gratuitously sloppy. $25 advance, $28 day of show. Doors open 7pm, all shows start 8pm. Narrows Center for the Arts 16 Anawan St. Fall River. 508-324-1926 www.ncfta.org (Sat. 12/6) Justin Roberts Like a scene from “Groundhog Day,” the event repeats itself over and over. Bass and drums pound out the beat in perfect unison. Bodies spring to their feet and rush the stage; jumping, dancing and bouncing off each other like bumper cars. The concertgoers behave like children. Which is no surprise because they are children, participating in the kiddie mosh pit found at nearly every Justin Roberts concert. Justin Roberts is truly one of the “all-stars” of the indie family music scene. He logs thousands of miles on the road each year, leading some to call him the hardest working man in children’s show business. With national awards and recognition and a devoted fan base, Justin and his wonderfully named bandmates “The Not Ready for Naptime Players” dish out unexpectedly intelligent and whimsically rocking music for kids and their parents. $8 advance, $10 day of show. 1pm. Narrows Center for the Arts 16 Anawan St. Fall River. 508-324-1926 www.ncfta.org (Sat. 12/6) Eilen Jewell Band Opening Act: Miss Tess and the bon ton Parade. Eilen (pronounced eee-lin) has got that old-timey, lazy, sexy home-on-the-range voice which she matches with terrific songs. And her band gives her a country-kick that

has made her a favorite of folk radio DJs across the country. $13 advance, $15 day of show. Doors open 7pm, all shows start 8pm.
