 INTRODUCTION Hello! On behalf of CroMSIC I would like to wish you a warm welcome to Zagreb, the capital of Croatia where you will spend, hopefully, the best month of your life. First of all, let me introduce us: CroMSIC was founded in 1992 and since then is a member of IFMSA. There are 4 Local Committees, Zagreb, Osijek, Rijeka and Split, with CroMSIC Zagreb being one of the biggest ones. Zagreb has always been a very popular destination for exchange students and every year over 60 students come to Zagreb for their IFMSA exchange. The team that will make sure this really becomes the best month of your life is: LEO(local officer on professional exchange): Ante Rebić, [email protected] LORE(local officer on research exchange): Viktorija Flego, [email protected] ASSISTENTS: Natalija Kastelic, [email protected] Dora Milaković, [email protected] Karla Poljančić, [email protected]

Now, let me tell you something about the city where you will spend the best month of your life: Zagreb, the capital city of the Republic of Croatia is an old Central European city. It lies on the intersection of important routes between the Adriatic coast and Central Europe. When the Croatian people achieved their independence in 1991, Zagreb became a capital a political and administrative center for the Republic of Croatia. Zagreb is also the hub of the business, academic, cultural, artistic and sporting worlds in Croatia. Zagreb can offer its visitors the Baroque atmosphere of the Upper Town, picturesque open-air markets, diverse shopping facilities, an abundant selection of crafts and a choice vernacular cuisine. Zagreb is a city of green parks and walks, with many places to visit in the beautiful surroundings. In spite of the rapid development of the economy and transportation, it has retained its charm, and a relaxed feeling that makes it a genuinely human city. We are all very excited and look forward to meet you here in Zagreb, hope you are too  Have I mentioned this will be the best month of your life? See you soon!

 EXCHANGE GUIDE 1. WEATHER The climate of Zagreb is classified as an oceanic climate, near the boundary of the humid continental climate. Zagreb has four separate seasons. Summers are warm, and winters are cold, without a discernible dry season. The average temperature in winter is −0.5 °C (31.1 °F) and the average temperature in summer is 22.0 °C (71.6 °F). Temperatures rise above 30 °C (86 °F) on an average 17 days each summer. Snowfall is common in the winter months, from December to March, and rain and fog are common in autumn (October to December).

2. PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION Public transportation in the city is organized in several layers: the inner parts of the city are mostly covered by trams, the outer city areas and closer suburbs are linked with buses and rapid transit commuter rail. The public transportation company ZET (Zagrebacki elektricni tramvaj, Zagreb Electric Tram) operates trams, all inner bus lines, and the most of the suburban bus lines. The best option is to buy the ZET's monthly ticket which costs 400 kn and gives you the option of free transportation by trams and buses for the whole month.

TRAM LINES: Zagreb has an extensive tram network with 15 day and 4 night lines covering much of the inner and middle-suburbs of the city. Tram number for some destinations (from the dorms): - the main square (Trg bana Jelacica) – 14, 17 - Main Bus Station – 5 - hospitals: Rebro – 4, 5, 17; Dubrava – 4 - Faculty of Medicine – 4, 14, 17

BUS LINES: There are bus lines for some outer parts of Zagreb. If you have ZET's monthly ticket, it's free for you. Here's the link of the lines depending on where you want to go. http://www.zet.hr/default.aspx?id=294

TRAIN LINES: The national rail operator Croatian Railways (Hrvatske zeljeznice, HZ) runs a network of urban and suburban train lines in the metropolitan Zagreb area. If you're going to the suburbs, the best is to come to the Main Railway Station and then get on a train. It's a different company than ZET so the train tickets are not included in a monthly ZET's ticket. You can find more details about ticket prices and train timetable on the following link: http://www.hzpp.hr/en

TAXIES: Taxies are readily available through a network of around 3000 taxi vehicles held by different companies which are all quite cheap. Taxi Cammeo: +38511212; http://taxi-cammeo.hr/ Radio Taxi Zagreb: +38511777; www.radio-taksi-zagreb.hr Eko Taxi: +38511414; www.ekotaxi.hr

RENT A BICYCLE:
