digital media 2 modeling presentation ex1-2 : Displaying the Materials Rack
exercise goals To elaborate upon already established skills of graphic communication. The assignment will focus on information management and display. This exercise will also further the students ability to use multiple programs to achieve a design goal. performance procedure a)
Using the file from ex1-1, each individual student will pick a material type construction set [STEEL, MASONRY, or WOOD]. You will work with that ONE construction set for the remainder of this exercise.
b)
Using only an AXONOMETRIC view, arrange the elements so that all are visible in your modeling frame. Make sure that lines are parallel and their is no great visual distinction in perspective of the pieces.
c)
Use the technique shown in class to obtain line drawings of the construction elements in a .DXF file. Bring this file into Illustrator and begin editing line weights.
d)
In InDesign make a new file named 3341_Sect094_XXX_Ex1-2.indd This file will be 11 x17 portrait or landscape orientation. In this file you will use your skills in graphic presentation to intelligently and efficiently layout the various elements from your modeled construction set. The following information must be included:
1) Drawing: model of construction element with corrected line weights from Illustrator 2) Tag: name of the construction element 3) Tag: dimensions of the construction element 4) Tag: any additional information from your research of the construction element 5) Name of the construction set
e)
This assignment must be submitted as a JPEG on your blog by the beginning of class on Tuesday, Sept 8th.
/* Notes */ Remember that the point of this exercise is to present a visual catalog of various elements. How these things flow on the page, how they are ordered and how they are sized are up to you. The only real restraints for this project are that it must be within the dimensions of 11 x 17, it must include all the above date, and it must reflect the graphic design standards that you learned on previous assignments of this nature.
