KEY SOFTWARE FEATURES Eudora 5.0’s new ESP feature makes sharing files (pictures, music, text and graphics documents, etc.) simple, easy and automatic: Eudora Sharing Protocol (ESP) ESP is an exclusive file management feature allowing multiple email users access to selected files in a virtual shared folder. ESP maintains local copies of the shared files on each ESP share group member’s computer and automatically syncs file updates, additions and removals. A set-up wizard allows users to quickly and easily create an ESP share group. Any file that can be sent as an attachment can be managed automatically by Eudora through the ESP feature purely on a peer-to-peer basis. This feature provides project collaboration capability required by small- to medium-sized businesses or geographically dispersed professional colleagues. Students, families and other social groups who desire or need a shared folder for access to photographs, music files, school projects, etc. also benefit from ESP.

KEY SOFTWARE FEATURES (CONT’D) MoodWatch MoodWatch monitors incoming and outgoing email for potentially rude, angry, dictatorial, demeaning or insulting language, and notifies the user. Based on rhetorical theories developed by David Kaufer, chairman of the Carnegie Mellon University English department, this feature compares phrases and words in email messages to those in a built-in “flaming dictionary.” (For an in-depth discussion of the concepts underlying this feature, see “Flaming: A White Paper” by David Kaufer in the “Press” section of the Eudora Web site at http://www.eudora.com/presskit/.) Eudora’s MoodWatch feature analyzes the language in messages and rates it graphically using one (mild) to three (most offensive) red chili peppers according to the level of potential harshness of the language. When MoodWatch detects no “heat,” it displays an ice cube.

Note: The feature is enabled by defaut and can be disabled by the user. Key features of MoodWatch include: •

An alert to the user when outgoing email contains potentially offensive language

A warning to indicate that an incoming email may contain harsh language

A visual ‘flame-level’ indicator that is conveniently located in the user interface

Graphic and textual displays of users’ email usage rates, activity patterns and history

User choice to track email received into all mailboxes or only the Inbox (IMAP only)

KEY SOFTWARE FEATURES (CONT’D) Eudora Internet Suite (EIS) 2.0 – EIS 2.0 can be downloaded at www.eudora.com/internetsuite. EIS is a bundle of three applications, which delivers a one-stop solution for managing incoming and outgoing email, and browsing the Web from any Palm OS-based handheld device. The Eudora email client in EIS 2.0 enables users to access multiple email accounts and uses the same mail server as the desktop email. EudoraWeb, the browser in EIS 2.0, is an Internet standard TCP/IP, HTTP/HTML browser that can access virtually any site – no proxy server is required. Eudora in EIS provides a powerful email management interface with desktop-level features. The software also supports multiple POP/SMTP email accounts that Windows users can access via HotSync, wireless or wired modem. Eudora for the Palm Computing Platform - Enables users to send and receive email from a Palm OS-based device Eudora Mail Conduit - Users can synchronize their Windows desktop email with a Palm OS-based device. The conduit allows the user to manage the amount of email stored on and transferred to the Palm OS device EudoraWeb browser for the Palm Computing Platform - Allows users access to almost any destination on the Internet with the TCP/IP and HTTP/HTML compliant EudoraWeb browser – no proxy server is required Users can operate EIS in one of three ways: unregistered, registered and unlimited sync. Unregistered and registered use is free and syncs only with desktop Eudora in versions 4.3.2 and higher in Paid or Sponsored modes. Unlimited sync costs $29.95 and is compatible with other common desktop email programs. Key features of EIS 2.0 include: •

Multiple email account management via HotSync or wireless connection

SET UP TIPS SETTING UP A EUDORA SHARING PROTOCOL (ESP) SHARE GROUP ESP’s set-up wizard simplifies the creation of an ESP share group. While ESP allows the user to customize certain setup options, the following discussion focuses on share group setup using the ESP setup wizard: 1. Create an ESP share group. In the Eudora 5.0 interface, choose ESP Groups from the Tools menu. Click New. ESP defaults to “create a brand new share group”. Click Next. The next dialog box prompts the user to name the share group. Enter the name in the space provided and click Next. A Share Group Description box appears. Enter a description of the group in the field and click Next. The user will receive a Share Group Mailbox dialog box to indicate the location to store messages related to this group. Edit or select the suggested name and click Next. The user then chooses where to store the shared file on the computer in the Share Group Folder dialog box. Either choose an existing folder in the space provided or edit/select the ESP suggestion and click Next. If the user has multiple email accounts, the wizard will then prompt them to indicate the personality (account) to use for group messages. When the Success dialog box appears, click Finish. 2. Invite share group members. In the Eudora 5.0 interface, choose ESP Groups from the Tools menu. The ESP Groups window appears. From the list in the lefthand column, click on the group name to which members will be invited. Click the Invite button. The Share Group Role Settings dialog box appears. Select the level of tasks that each invitee will be allowed to perform. With Full Membership, the invitee can send and receive updates to shared files. A Broadcasting Member can update the files, but receives no updates while a Receiving Member never updates, but receives incoming updates to shared files. ESP defaults to No Preference. The bottom half of the dialog box prompts the user to indicate whether group members will receive notifications before their shared folder receives updates. The box is checked by default. Click OK. An email message window will open and it contains all the information about the share group. Edits can be made to the email content. Enter addresses of invitees in the To field and click Send. 3. Joining an ESP group. Upon receipt of an email message with an invitation to join the group, click the ESP invitation icon. The Join ESP Share Group dialog box appears. To join the group, click Join. Information contained in the attachment creates a group entry in the invitee’s Groups window and prompts the invitee to specify a group folder and mailbox through the New Group wizard. Follow the prompts in the New Group wizard. ESP creates an RSVP message confirming the invitee’s acceptance and forwards it to existing group members.
