Ensure Effective Reading Instruction Summary: Today, the world is facing a reading crisis. It is a local and global problem that we encounter today. About 40% of 4th graders performed below basic in on the national assessment of educational progress (NAEP) that is they did not demonstrate under standing of 4th grade level texts, 10% of 4th graders did not participate in the NAEP because they could not read well enough to take it. And according to episological data.1721% of children have a reading disability. Most of the data presented came from the minority of children belonging in Afro-American and Hispanic 4th graders that’s why somehow it is believed as a disproportionate data by the NAEP. So to prevent this we must develop a effective early reading instruction, also we must apply both the use of phonics and whole language in teaching students to read, and we must determine that learning to read is entirely different in learning to talk. In short we must practice and device a good way to improve the crisis today.

The facts that are presented in the article are very alarming, if we do not device and implement a proper way to address the problem in reading, it could cause a devastating effect.
