What is ENERGY STAR? ENERGY STAR is a US government-backed program helping businesses and individuals protect the environment through superior energy efficiency. Energy star logo identifies an ENERGY STAR qualified product.
ENERGY STAR for the home Energy efficient choices can save families about a third on their energy bill with similar savings of greenhouse gas emissions, without sacrificing features, style or comfort. ENERGY STAR helps people to make the energy efficient choice.
ENERGY STAR for the Business A strategic approach to energy management can produce twice the savings - for the bottom line and the environment - as typical approaches, EPA's ENERGY STAR partnership offers a proven energy management strategy that helps in measuring current energy performance, setting goals, tracking savings, and rewarding improvements.
ENERGY STAR for office IT equipments An ENERGY STAR labeled computer, in sleep mode, uses 70% less electricity than computers without power management features. Earning the ENERGY STAR. If left inactive, ENERGY STAR qualified computers enter a low-power mode and use 15 watts or less. New chip technologies make power management features more reliable, dependable, and userfriendly than even just a few years ago. Spending a large portion of time in low-power mode not only saves energy, but also helps equipment run cooler and last longer Businesses that use ENERGY STAR enabled office equipment may realize additional savings on air conditioning and maintenance. Over its lifetime, ENERGY STAR qualified equipment in a single home office (e.g., computer, monitor, printer, and fax) can save enough electricity to light an entire home for more than two years.
Eligible equipments for ENERGY STAR logo program – Computers equipments For the following computer and computer related items the ENERGY STAR program is available.

ENERGY STAR partnership program A manufacturer who is interested in promoting energy efficient products can join hands with ENERGY STAR for mutual benefit. Various activities involved in becoming a ENERGY STAR partner Identifying a specific product program Giving company information and requesting for customized partnership program Executing the partnership agreement
ENERGY STAR requirements Computers a. The computer shall enter a sleep mode after a period of inactivity. b. If the computer is shipped with the capability to be on a network, it shall have the ability to enter a sleep mode while on the network. c. If the computer is shipped with the capability to be on a network, it shall retain in sleep mode its ability to respond to wake events directed or targeted to the computer while on a network. If the wake event requires the computer to exit the sleep mode and perform a task, the computer shall re-enter its sleep mode after a period of inactivity following the completion of the task requested. d. The computer shall consume power in the sleep mode according to the below table. Maximum Continuous Power Rating of Power Supply ≤ 200W > 200W ≤ 300W > 300W ≤ 350W > 350W ≤ 400W > 400W
Watts in sleep mode ≤ 15W ≤ 20W ≤ 20W ≤ 20W 10% of the maximum continuous output rating
Monitors The monitor should support the below two modes.

HCL Infosystems Limited a. First Low Power or “Sleep” Mode: Sleep mode is defined as the reduced power state that the monitor model enters after receiving instructions from a computer or via other functions. A blank screen and reduction in power consumption characterize this mode. The monitor returns to full-power mode upon sensing a request from a user. b. Second Low-Power or “Deep-Sleep” Mode: Deep-Sleep mode is defined as the second reduced power state that the monitor enters after receiving instructions from a computer or via other functions. A significant reduction in power consumption characterizes this mode. The monitor returns to full-power mode upon sensing a request from a user.
ENERGY STAR Certification The ENERGY STAR certification is done as per the below process Successful partnership agreement Testing to ascertain the a product meets the ENERGY STAR program requirement for that specific category of product Submission of test result to ENERGY STAR by the partner Confirmation mail from ENERGY STAR and ENERGY STAR web site (http://www.energystar.gov/index.cfm?c=computers.pr_computers ) updation
