Email from Sen. Bill Nelson about Honduras crisis Dear Mr. Padrino: Thank you for contacting me regarding the current political crisis in Honduras. As a member of the Senate Armed Services and Intelligence Committees, I am monitoring the situation closely. Negotiations are currently underway in Costa Rica between President Manuel Zelaya, who was forced from office, and the interim President Roberto Micheletti, who was appointed by the Honduran National Congress to serve out the presidential term. It is important that all parties work to achieve a peaceful political resolution that respects the Honduran constitution, upholds the rule of law, and has the support of the Honduran people. The United States and the Organization of American States support this mediation process, which is being led by President Arias of Costa Rica. While the international community can play a constructive role in helping to resolve the crisis, the current situation must ultimately be reconciled by the Honduran people. If you have any additional concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me. Sincerely, Senator Bill Nelson
