Biographical Overview-----------------------------------------------------------------I was born in California and moved to Florida when I was eight years old. I have been involved in Girl Scouting, National Honor Society, the Gainesville Youth Chorus (an International Touring Choir), and am a National Merit Scholarship Semi-Finalist.

I have participated in the International Baccalaureate program at Eastside High School for the past three years. I took Pre-IB courses in freshman and sophomore year, and began taking IB courses and tests last year. Eastside High School 1201 SE 43 Street Gainesville, FL 32641 GPA (weighted): 4.6630 GPA (unweighted): 3.7750 I’m ranked within the top 20% of my class, and 70th out of 358 seniors. SAT 01/09 - Critical Reading 800 - Math 600 - Writing 580 SAT 03/09 - Critical Reading 740 - Math 630 - Writing 670

Activities---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

   



Gainesville Youth Chorus, singing Alto for 4 years. I am a Student Assistant and have participated in over 30 concerts. I have sung with the combined choir at the fundraising event STOP! Children’s Cancer for 4 years and traveled with a select group of singers to Europe this summer to sing with local performance groups in Germany, Austria, Italy, France and Switzerland.



National English Honor Society for 2 years. - Book Club, a student lead group which discusses and interprets novels and works or nonfiction. I have a been a member for 2 years. - Migrant Children Book Group, Last year I collaborated with a group of peers to begin the process of writing and illustrating a bilingual (English/Spanish) children’s book for a program at the University of Florida which tutors the children of migrant workers using bilingual books.



Childcare at my church. For the past year and a half I have donated my time to working with the group of 3 to 4 year old preschoolers while their parents are occupied.

Special Projects and Experiences-----------------------------------------------------•

The summer before freshman year I traveled to Germany, Switzerland and Austria with a group of friends from middle school and their parents. It was a wonderful cultural experience because it exposed me to the reality of globalization at a far earlier age than most of my peers.



In the summer following 10th grade I was nominated by my history teacher to participate in the National Student Leadership Conference. I attended a seminar specifically targeted towards students interested in Journalism and Public Relations.



Last year I spent several hours in O’leno state park planting pine seedlings to combat the effects of deforestation and a dry winter which left the park susceptible to fires.



I was awarded the position of High School Intern at the Tower Road Branch of the Alachua County Library District this summer. It was a nine week internship designed to exposes a select group of students to the mechanisms of how libraries function and the vital role they play in the lives of all members of our society.



Last summer I traveled once more to Europe, to Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Austria and France, this time with my Chorus. It was a really fantastic trip, because I got spend time with friends who were graduating before me, and met some wonderful, very talented people from other countries.

Awards----------------------------------------------------------------------------------•

In 8th grade I received the Girl Scout Silver Award for my service project for which I assembled care packages for abused women and their children, so that when they sought asylum with the organization Peaceful Paths, in the event that they were unable to bring their belongings, the women would have some toiletries, and their children would have a stuffed animal and some activities to occupy their time.



In 10th grade I was awarded the Smith College Book Award, which is given to female students who have been recognized for their academic rigor and leadership qualities.



In 10th grade I also received a commendation for excellent achievement in the subject of European History.



I have recently been made aware of my status as a National Merit Scholarship Semi-Finalist based on my PSAT score of 216.
