OBJECTIVES: At end of the lesson the students are expected to: a. Identify ingredients in preparing basic pie crust b. Demonstrate on how to make basic pie crust c. Value the importance of basic pie crust in real life situation

SUBJECT MATTER a. Topic: Basic Pie Crust b. Concept/Content: Pie – a baked dish of fruit, or meat and vegetables, typically with a top and base of pastry. Pie Crust – the outside covering of a pie that will serve as a wrapping to keep the ingredients contained within the dessert. Mise En Place – French term means “put in place that includes assembling all the necessary ingredients, equipments and tools and serving pieces needed to prepare food. Shortening – butter or fat used for making pastry or bread. c. Value Focus: Listening, speaking, observing, collaboration, performing d. Reference: e. Instructional Materials: Laptop, Projector, Activity Cards, Egg Pie tools and ingredients

First, let’s have a mise en place. As you see here everything is set from measuring to preparation. Same as the tools are ready.

1 ½ cup ALL PURPOSE FLOUR ½ cup SHORTENING (butter or margarine) 6-8 tablespoon COLD WATER

IMPORTANT REMINDERS: 1. Observe cleanliness 2. Remove all you hand accessories 3. Wash your hands properly 4. Wear complete outfit 5. Proper handling of tools should be observed to avoid accidents Yes ma’am

Now that you throw already the ingredients, we will proceed to the procedure in mixing and kneading.

(After 10 minutes) Here it is. (present the output) 4. ANALYSIS Observe it carefully. Now who can describe the crust? Nice answer! Why is it important to measure all ingredients appropriately? Very good!

PROCEDURES: 1. Cut in fat in flour using pastry blender until ingredients resemble a coarse. 2. Gradually add cold water. Start forming the dough into balls. A few drops of water may be added if dough will not hold together. Do not knead. (students are attentively observing the demonstration)
