The Information Processing Model
This model helps us to understand how to support the learning of a student with a disability by separating into components such as stimulation/input, processing/thinking, and output/sharing.
There is no known primary cause of learning disabilities. However research shows neurological differences and sensory deficits, along with different brain structures, and the idea that learning disabilities could come from genetics.
Sensory memory, Short-term memory & Long-term memory
Sensory memory – when someone can hold large amounts of information for a very short period of time; 2-3 seconds Short-term memory – when someone has the ability to remember directions or steps for solving a math problem while simultaneously doing the calculations Long-term memory – when someone stores information which they have made their own to draw on for future use
