When an object moves in front of another it blocks its light. This formation of shadow cast by a heavenly body over the other is called an eclipse.
Eclipse
Solar Eclipse
Lunar Eclipse
When the moon comes in between the Sun and earth, the shadow of the moon forms on the earth resulting in Solar Eclipse. Hence solar eclipse occurs when the moon’s shadow moves across the face of the earth. SOLAR ECLIPSE
Total Solar Eclipse
Partial Solar Eclipse
Annular Solar Eclipse
Total Solar Eclipse Some part of earth is covered by Umbra and no sunlight reaches there. The moon completely blocks out the sun. It’s the case of total solar eclipse.
Partial Solar Eclipse The other parts of earth may be covered by penumbra where some part of light from the sun may reach. In this case partial solar eclipse occurs. A Partial solar Eclipse occurs if the moon blocks only a part of sun light. Annular Solar Eclipse If the moon is at the farthest point from the earth and gets closer to the sun, it darkens only the middle part of the sun. In such a case, middle part of the sun becomes dark and there is a bright ring around the edges which is known as corona. This bright ring occurs for a short period. This type of solar eclipse is called annular eclipse. A Total Solar eclipse is an impressive phenomenon which occurs in nature and occurs for a short period only.
Lunar Eclipse occurs when the earth comes between the sun and the moon and the shadow of the earth forms on the moon. LUNAR ECLIPSE
TOTAL LUNAR ECLIPSE TOTAL LUNAR ECLIPSE :
PARTIAL LUNAR ECLIPSE
When the entire moon is blocked by the earth i.e. it completely lies in the umbra region, then a total lunar eclipse occurs.
PARTIAL LUNAR ECLIPSE: When a part of moon passes through the shadow of earth i.e. it lies in the penumbra region and receives light from some part of sun, a partial lunar eclipse occurs
