Why Why does does IS IS 12615 12615 specify specify two two efficiency efficiency levels? levels? User has the option to go for eff1 motor and save energy but at higher initial cost. It is strongly recommended to go for eff1 motor
when utilization is high.
The standard is hence user friendly since it has provided two levels of efficiency. This is in line with other international standards
like CEMEP.

In these applications, motors are designed for low starting losses rather than low running losses.
