Focus… focus… focus… Focus is all that is required to build a successful career. Almost all of those who succeeded in their chosen fields have pursued a very focused career. To name just a few: — Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam (Rocket Scientist & President) — Amartya Sen (Nobel-prize winning Economist) — Kalpana Chawla (Astronaut) The whole world is looking towards India for its high quality professionals. If you remain focussed towards your goal, you’ll be able to stand out among the millions of students who pass out of colleges in India every year, and be a luminary in your field of specialisation.

So what’s your focus?

// How do you realise your dream career? — Join the ‘Best’ schools in India or abroad In order to ensure success you need to aim for the best colleges and universities in your chosen field. Most often, you’ll find that these best colleges for higher education are in developed countries like the USA, the UK, Australia or Canada.

// Identifying Programs and Universities There are more than 500 schools offering Masters programs in the US alone. Selecting the right school & the right program is key to a successful application. It is imperative that, while shortlisting universities to apply to, you look for the right ‘fit’ between your interests, skills, expectations and career goals on the one hand, and the school’s strengths and resources on the other. This will not only enhance your chances of securing admission to that school, but will also go a long way in helping you develop a successful career. You should start your application process with extensive research on different universities, finally arriving at a short list of schools with the right fit. Typically, a student ends up applying to ten universities.

// Costs & Financing Options The cost of studying abroad is probably the most important determinant of a student's decision to study abroad. Admittedly, education abroad is expensive. On an average, a Masters program in the US can cost anything from Rs.5 lacs to Rs.15 lacs per annum. However, it is also a fact that it is not very difficult to find sources of funding. All that is required is perseverance and correct guidance.

// Admission Procedure The application process to universities abroad is a time-consuming process. You need to commence around 12-18 months prior to the start of term. One must understand that, unlike in India, admission decisions abroad are not taken on the basis of any single factor. The Admission Committee looks into various aspects of a candidate's application before taking the decision. For the applicant, what this implies is that they have to invest sufficient time and attention to each and every component of their application packet. This results in a substantially long process.
