Ebo Shakoor - artist, vocalist, flutist, composer and percussionist Since the age of five years old in Washington D.C., Ebo has explored the world of art and music. From performing at his mother’s church, singing and playing his flute to painting and drawing for school projects. Being accepted at Pratt Institute of Art in New York City his mother decided that it was too expensive for her to pay as a single mother after his father’s death. This decision didn’t stop Shakoor’s ability to continue on in the liberal arts that brought him to concert stages from around the world. Ebo is now presenting to the public an opportunity to view his passion for painting. The African theme of musicians, dancers, angels, and Australian bushman, Shakoor’s expression with his vivid colours is something for the eyes to feel that passion for Africa. Reflection of his emotional depth of his own experiences can be felt in every painting. After years of performing with jazz, world beat and blues greats like Dizzy Gillespie, Don Cherry, Babatundi Olatundi, and Gil Scott-Heron to name a few. Ebo has revolved 180 degrees to express his love for painting and his music with colours. “When I look at contempary art of African themes, I can’t feel the colours. It should grab you like the music because sound and light are twins. The music of Africa is in the rhythmic conversations that take you to the hearts and souls that reveal every part of their life and death. ”With his extensive studies of esoteric approach to colour and sound, Shakoor knows the meaning of healing through light and sound with every stroke of his brush. The great masters of art in Europe and the America punctuated time with unforgettable images that cover the walls of galleries of the world, but Ebo wants to maintain the preservation of the African tribal images that has been apart of our civilization. That noble art form that has given us the great Yoruba and Benin dynasties before times in Europe and America. “I just want to feel the African sun and how the colours penetrates the life styles of my people.” For info about galleries and exhibitions: Ebo Shakoor Raiffeisenstr.2 j 67133 Maxdorf Germany Tel.:06237-504012 Email: [email protected]
