Investing in an efficient belt conveying system demands a large capital committment. The best possible way to protect this investment is to install the Fenner Dunlop belt monitoring system, EagleEye™. Although the EagleEye™ will not actually prevent faults from occurring, it will ensure the least possible damage to your investment. The benefits of installing Fenner Dunlop Americas EagleEye™ can be enormous. Continuous belt monitoring gives operators much tighter control over finances by enabling them to recognize potential trouble spots and take action before costly, unnecessary damage occurs. EagleEye™ does not demand high levels of expertise to understand. It is easily interpreted by operatives working in conjunction with their other duties.

EagleEye™, the intelligent belt monitoring system Conveyor belts form a key part of many mining and processing businesses worldwide. Their installation represents significant investment, and their maintenance or failure means expensive downtime. Frequent monitoring of long belts is often impractical where certain forms of damage can be very hard to detect by visual inspection alone. EagleEye™, from Fenner Dunlop Americas, is the most advanced combined rip detection and continuous belt monitoring system in the world. Named EagleEye™ because it utilizes a sophisticated Programmable Logic Control (PLC) system to constantly keep a watchful eye over your conveyor. It gives users instant access to information about the conveyor belt condition and gives 24/7protection via the conveyor’s control system to sound an alarm or stop the belt should any significant damage occur. It can, for instance, immediately stop the belt upon detection of a longitudinal rip. This is made possible by the rip detection panels and loops integrated in the belt. In addition to its highly efficient rip detection capability, the EagleEye™ system can provide users with a constant flow of information on any damage that occurs and can pinpoint its exact location, allowing a visual assessment to determine if any remedial work is necessary. EagleEye™ can also determine the extent of any damage that occurs, assign it different categories of damage level and monitor its development. This means that users have the option of allowing minor damage to pass until it registers at a more serious level or take immediate pre-emptive action to inspect and eliminate any further damage before it turns into a major downtime situation.

The Intelligent Belt Monitoring System . . . Continuous belt protection On installation, EagleEye’s PLC system runs a ‘signature profile’ of the complete belt length, used as the bench mark against which the next belt cycle is measured. Any changes to the ‘signature profile’ are then highlighted on local or remote displays as new damage and assigned a rating, depending on severity. Damage can be accepted after assessing and the information on the damage recorded, a new signature profile is then established. This profile shows changes seen in any area of the belt (Splices, Cord condition, Loops, Panels). Using the pre-set damage level facility, the belt can be automatically stopped or just a warning signal given depending on the severity of the damage.

EagleEye™ rip detection panels and loops The EagleEye™ system has the capability of giving Rip Detection by either Magnetic Flux Leakage Panels or Conductive Loops or a combination of both. The insertion of rip detection panels, either on-site or during manufacture at very little cost, provides extremely effective rip detection. The panels are designed to effect a reaction at the slightest indication of a rip, triggering an alarm or conveyor stop sequence. The location of rip damage reported by either technique and cord condition monitoring is done by a positional algorithm that utilizes any of the following information that is available.RFID (Radio Frequency ID) tags, various types of driven Encoder outputs, event sequences such as, splices loops, and panels.

Remote Steel Cord Conveyor Belt Monitoring System The EagleEye™ Conveyor Belt Monitoring System is a permanently installed conveyor diagnostics tool designed for the analysis of splice condition, cord damage, and cord corrosion without the need to stop production on a steel cord conveyor system. The interface allows for belt positioning and auto stoppages at a determined position on the conveyor system. Steel cord belt condition monitoring is achieved by measuring magnetic flux leakage (MFL) from cords and comparing changes in data from belt cycles. A Magnetizer lightly magnetizes the belt and information from the longitudinal cords and rip detection panels is gathered by the MFL Sensor. The EagleEye™ system analyzes every new incident and automatically assigns it a rating corresponding to its severity, together with a date and position reference, established by the Encoder or the RFID tags. Via Virtual Private Network (VPN) access or via satellite remote access, data is downloaded, analyzed and an electronic report is sent to advise the location of damage within your belt with millimeter precision. This remote monitoring capability enables you to request scanning at any given time with no site visit required to download.

Operators Monitor Screens For ease of operation, the system‘s monitor screens are embedded into the mine-wide PLC network displays. It provides a Visual Trace of the belt’s movement, in real time, and highlights any damage that has occurred. The Tracking window shows the speed of the belt, in meters per second, and the distance any given point has traveled past the MFL Sensor. The New Damage window highlights any new damage that has occurred following the belt’s signature profile. This window also provides information on the date damage occurred, its position, its severity and ongoing development.

Continuous Development The EagleEye™ system continually evolves to meet ever demanding production needs. Development upgrades, can be made available such as alignment, belt thickness and material weight on the conveyor belt, focus on improvements needed to guard against unnecessary damage and downtime.
