From: Charmaine Taylor Subject: Drum Planter Project Date: November 21, 2004 5:28:47 PM PST 5 Attachments, 722 KB Here is an image of the 1. metal dryer drum 1. Drum from a large clothes dryer
2. painted with asphalt emulsion.
3. with dress netting applied, and plastered with a first coat of AE stabilized clay, lime and sawdust.
4. Once dry a layer of lime-sand plaster was applied.
5. Once the lime plaster was dry a drizzle of pigment in water was added over the rough surface. The blue color is liquid laundry bluing straight from the bottle. Look for "Mrs. Stewarts" brand in grocery stores, in the laundry soap aisle. The other colors are powdered pigments from www.Sinopia.com Similar pigments can be found cheaper at pottery stores, and as cement colors at building suppliers. 6. The glass at the top is broken, salvaged art glass from a local pipe maker. The glass was threaded on plastic filiment and looped through existing slots in the drum lip.
The drum now sits in my yard, and once filled with soil, it was planted with avacado seeds and sunflowers. Charmaine Taylor Publishing [email protected] PO Box 375 Cutten CA 95534 707-441-1632 www.dirtcheapbuilder.com www.papercrete.com
