Environmental degradation is a major factor that increases the effects of drought. It causes large-scale starvation, loss of assets and livestock and death, Drought is a perennial feature in some states of India. Deforestation, soil erosion (by wind and water), loss of bio-diversity and excessive use of ground or surface water result in drought.

Do not waste water while brushing your teeth, taking bath,and flushing your toilet. There are many in the country who walk 10 to 15 km to fetch a pot of water.

Water is most valuable element of human survival as well as for other living beings. Take care of leaking taps and pipes.

Grow grass on barren land Recycle used water and make use of the same for gardening and other purposes.

What can we students do?  

Conserve Water: Prevent misuse and wastage of water, and encourage recycling of water Harvest Rain Water at home and in schools: Find out how you can collect rain water and store it, or use it to recharge a well, borewell source or sump. Can you see your school as a model for roof-top rain water harvesting in your area?

Plant trees and care for them: CARRY OUT CAMPAIGNS FOR PLANTATIONS. Find out the right trees for your area. This information will be available with the horticulture, forest or agriculture department or VAW if in rural areas.
