Dr. Kohn, My daughter Kayla has asked that I “describe” her for you, as part of an assignment related to AP Literature/Composition First, let me tell you that Kayla is my favorite oldest child. Kayla is a driven and motivated student. I feel that she will do well in your class; she had a strong desire to excel in any endeavor she selects. You will see on the outside a student who is attentive, reads ahead, is prepared for class, asks questions when necessary and is (normally) non-disruptive. She has a sense of humor that borders on the dry and the dark. This, I attribute to her radical ability to view the world from the left side of her brain. Kayla’s career goal involves working in the news media, as a reporter and then an anchor. Her aspirations are for the national media. I do not doubt for one minute she will achieve her goals. My instincts tell me she may also be involved in producing news telecasts on a national or international level. I do not know what objectives you have in mind for your students. If it is to teach the mechanics of Literature and Composition, Kayla will prove to be an easy assignment for you. If, however, your goal is to teach your students to look deeper into Literature for it varied meanings and emotions, and to eloquently Compose such introspective thoughts into a comprehensive literary analysis, then I congratulate you and wish you well. Regards Louis K. Smith
