DUYOG MARAWI A Church Based and Interfaith Dialogical Response to the Marawi Crisis in partnership with the Redemptorist Missionaries SOCIAL ACTION CENTER ST. MARY’S PRELATURE IN MARAWI
INTRODUCTION/RATIONALE The Duyog Marawi is now on its phase 2, includes programs such as livelihood project and shelter project that aims to help those IDP’s from Marawi Siege affected by the Marawi Siege and also those who were victims of Severe Typhoon Vinta in order to support and help them alleviate their current living conditions. Last December 22, 2017 the STS Vinta had officially landed in the Philippines area of responsibility and hit the most part of the province of Lanao del Sur. The Municipality of Bubong is one of the municipalities in Lanao del Sur that was affected by the STS Vinta; and one of the Barangays in the Municipality of Bubong that was hit first by STS Vinta is the small barangay located just a several distances away from the Ramain River named Barangay Taboro. In line with the livelihood project of Duyog Marawi, Barangay Taboro was one of the selected Barangays in the Municipality of Bubong where the Duyog Marawi had conducted an emergency relief operations during its phase 1 and now in phase 2 will be one of the target barangay in Basak Area where the livelihood project will be implemented. When the STS vinta hit Barangay Taboro. Most of its residents were greatly affected by the flood that reached up to the roof of their houses. Their basic necessities were damaged during the flood. In addition to their basic necessities, their main source of livelihood which is farming was also greatly affected. Most of their crops were damaged. Around 70% of the farmers in Barangay Taboro produces rice while the remaining percent produces corn and spices. Farmers process their products after the harvest and sell it in the market located along the highway in Bubong Lanao del Sur. Since the STS Vinta has affected their great source livelihood, most of family in the Barangay Taboro are until now don’t have any source of livelihood. Most of them depends on the relief operation given by the various government agencies and as well as some of the non-government agencies in humanitarian works.

OBJECTIVES/GOALS Aims of this proposal are the following: 1. To help the farmers alleviate their living conditions 2. To help farmers to gain knowledge about farming 3. To help the farmers enhance/develop their skills in farming SITUATION ANALYSIS During the orientation, the farmers raised their questions regarding from their problem about farming. Aside from calamity which cannot prevent, one of their problem is how to eliminate weeds and pests in their farm. According on them, there were some insects and weeds which become resistance to pesticide and herbicide. During the community profiling conducted last June 2018, there were around thirty profiled farmers producing either rice, corn or other vegetables. Also, a consultation was conducted in order to identify what crops they produce and who produces such crops. Some farmers had started to plant again little by little. Some failed to plant again due to insufficiency of resources. Thus, led to some active farmers in barangay Taboro to have no source of livelihood up until today. The crops that most farmers in Barangat Taboro produce aside from rice and corn were Pipino (Cucumber), Babasal (Squash), Tagotong (Eggplant), Kamantis (Tomato), Ampalaya, Repolyo (Cabbage), Petchay, Kodalis (Beans),
NEEDS ASSESMENT The budget proposal that the beneficiaries requested during the community consultation that was conducted last June are Cucumber, Squash, Tomatoes, Ampalaya, Palapa, Cabbage, Beans, Onion, Okra, Bell Paper. According to them, the above mentioned crops and vegetables were the plants that they used to grow and produce way back when the STS Vinta has not hit their community yet. Moreover, these plants really do grow in the type of soil in Barangay Taboro because most of them already have an experience in producing these plants. These plants do not only help them in terms of foods for Maglasang Formation House, Sto.
