Drive someone crazy? The effect of micromanagement is always adverse. Especially if the manager who does it is at senior level the effect is very severe. I know of a VP in large multinational who spent time atleast 3 4 hours in fixing his CEO’s whimsical tendency to ask for different statistics on the same project .every 30 minutes he will ask for status

is micromanagement bad ? The truth of the matter is that it is mostly bad not totally bad person or group of people who are subjected to this suffer from stress low productivity, and burnout but there are few who cant be left alone. we all have individuality and want to be left alone to do our job. The micro manager makes life more and more difficult. It can also add to the misery just by the sheer weight of the title. If a CEO /Director is the one micromanaging the impact is many fold as the subordinates will not dare to push back. They become silent sufferers 7

Can we avoid micromanagement ? . The answer is yes and no. Depends on how critical the work is and how close you are to the senior manager Recently my ceo who is typical anxious ceo ,had to be told “ - I will raise the red flag if something is wrong. till then be rest assured that everything is going smooth.” He got the message. But I had to still ensure that a weekly MIS dash board went to him updating status.

Do they know?

The irony is that Micro Managers do not know that they do it.

It is like cat closing the yes and pretending the world to be dark

What to do? Realise that you are doing it or overdoing. Seek feed back from people closer to you others may not tell truth on your face Focus on results, than process Have confidence in team members. Change your belief system-shift the paradigm – that people are all as capable and perhaps even more competent than you. Great Organisations are made up of great teams. you are not the Rambo.
