Since May 2004, this matter is being explained, by the writer of these articles, in the introduction sessions of various workshops for responsible Parijans. In this column we have come to know till now what is the specialty of the Yug Nirman Yojana. What do various astrologers say about it? What are our achievements till now under the guardianship of the Gurusattaa? Now we will discuss our responsibilities for the coming seven years. 2011-2012 is the centenary year of Param Poojya Gurudev Pundit Shriram Sharma Aacharyaji’s birth. (Birth on thirteenth day of the waning moon fortnight of Ashwin month of the year 1911). The centenary year will be celebrated with joy in the entire nation (India) as well as in the whole world. The silver jubilee year of the Brahmavarchas Shodh Sansthan

Vedmata Gayatri Trust, more than four thousand awakened and lively Pragya Sansthans, running of the network of Shaktipeeths and the huge expansion process of DSVV. New equipments and instruments are being procured for the Brahma Varchas Shodh Sansthan. Facilities necessary for research and the quality of the books of the libraries are also being augmented.

From June 5th, 1979 a series of programs, related essentially to Scientific Spirituality, were initiated among the awakened and enlightened group of people in the entire nation (India) as well as the world. This series of programs has established a strong hold for Scientific Spirituality among the awakened and enlightened group of people. Moreover, this series of programs has joined students (both boys and girls) and teaching staff of colleges and universities, top officials of various organizations and volunteers affiliated with service based organizations like Rotary Club, Lions Club and Bhartiya Vikas Parishad, to Yug Nirman Yojana. Now, the same program will taken further this year too. This year one conference is proposed in the capital of India and another in Dev Sanskriti Vishwavidhyalaya (DSVV) before Gayatri Jayanti (June 17th). In these conferences, different personalities will meet and interact with each other. There will be discussions on the benefits to the whole humanity through harmonization of Spirituality and Science. It is quite possible that there will be series of programs focused on Yoga and on group discussions among awakened and enlightened groups in some of the metropolitan cities. Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad, Ahemdabad, Bangalore, Pune, Ludhiyana, Nagpur, Lucknow, Kolkata, Jaipur are the developing metropolitan cities of today. So many extremely talented personalities are hidden in these metropolitan cities. If we can engage them in ServiceSaadhanaa then the Yug Nirman will not be far off. This action plan is being thought on and it is possible that by the time this edition of the magazine (Akhand Jyoti) reaches the Parijans a letter regarding this might also reach them. There is a very big group of rich and wealthy people. They have lots of things to give, but due to lack of true information they are not able to properly plan their donations. For them, it is desired to hold separate goshthees (group discussions), so that they can also give their aahutees (offerings) in this great Yagya, after knowing and understanding the national and international projects run by Shree

The present year, the Silver Jubilee Year of Gayatri Shaktipeeths Nearing the conclusion of the year of Yug chetanaa (The consciousness of this Era), now the Silver Jubilee year of that pledge has come, which was taken twenty five years ago by Poojyavar (Gurudev) in the form of establishing Shaktipeeths. He himself kept going to so many places for about one and a half to two years for performing the Pranpratishtha (the process of invoking the consciousness of Mother Gayatri in the idol of Mother Gayatri). These Shaktipeeths were made as Centers for bringing awareness in common people - the modern form of pilgrimage places. The vision was that of spreading the consciousness of the Era from these Centers, like lighthouses, to each and every home. Whole of India should get imbibed with Gayatri and get totally soaked with the consciousness of Yagya. Many Shaktipeeths are active in this direction, while some are limited to Puja and Aarati. They are not able to move forward and do the work for which they have been continually inspired since years. Now the environment is created by the Zonal Workshops (in Kolkata, Simala, Jaipur, Sileegudee, Bhopal, Nagpur, Ambaji) and all the Shaktipeeth, in this Silver Jubilee year, are developing into institutions, that are running as strong, lively and decentralized bright support of a well managed Center, carrying out collection of movements. This year for every Shaktipeeth the focus will be on showing utter transparency in financial matters, in ways of operating, and in the area of mutual thought exchange. The decisions for a district shall be taken jointly by Samanvaya Samitees (harmonizing committees) of the District as well as Shaktipeeths of that district.

Shaktipeeths should start working as a unit of the DSVV. This work will continue till December 2006 so that all Pragya Sansthans of India and Gayatri Consciousness Centers as well as operating Centers abroad can work with the same central basis. We are thinking of even computerizing all of these and making a network. All the Shaktipeeths celebrate either their foundation day or an annual function. The Center will try to maintain uniformity in this aspect also.

Paras. (Paras is a stone that changes mild steel into gold on touching.) In India too, in big metropolitan cities, in state capitols, as well as in cities that are under the influence of western materialistic culture, we are thinking of organizing such Yoga focused Camps, so that the awareness regarding ‘fitness’ in these places can be steered positively. Everyone will have to understand that Yogopchaar (YogaTherapy) is the name for the Complete Medical Treatment of Body, Mind and Soul. The procedure of doing meditation will have to be taught to everyone, and the initial Sutras (Modus operandi) of Yama & Niyama will have to be made comprehensible to everyone, then only the true Yoga will be established. (Yam & Niyama are the first two steps of Ashtang Yoga of Maharshee Patanjali’s system. Yama is related to social conduct while Niyama is related to personal conduct. Yama refers to Ahimsa (Non-violence), Satya (Truth), Astheya (Honesty), Aparigraha (Non-possessiveness) and Brahmacharya (Celibacy). Niyama refers to Sauch (Cleanliness), Santosh (Contentment), Tapa (Austerity), Swadhyaya (Self-study) and Ishwar Pranidhaan (Surrender).) Otherwise, the way in which today’s ‘Instant Yoga’ is harming us, the way in which through TV and other mediums it is being delivered haphazardly and in an entirely unscientific manner, it holds the possibility of damaging our culture in a very great manner. If the Youth Shakti gets connected with Yoga, if the Youth Shakti becomes healthy and strong then India of year 2020 will be strong and powerful. Our dream is that in the coming fifteen years our youth that are free of addictions, self-reliant, vigorous and brilliant will establish India as Jagatguru (Guru that guides the world) in the whole world. The saying of Swami Vivekananda will then be seen coming true.

Spreading of Total Yoga in the entire nation (India) and in the world

Many students have gained a Certificate, Diploma, Post Graduate or Graduate Degree in Yoga from DSVV. Through them, ten day Yoga Shivirs (Training Camps) will be arranged at many places in the entire nation and abroad, from this year itself. These Shivirs will focus on YogaTherapy. Training and treatment of common people and patients will be done in these Shivirs. Due to this, whole of India will be seen engulfed in Yoga, and as compared to other people active in this field, these camps will be organized at the cost price itself so that common people can benefit from them. This year itself, from the month of March, four students are being sent from DSVV to Russia for one year. They will stay there for a year and will conduct Yoga-Therapy Camps at many places. Yoga is going to be a Holistic Medical Therapy in the coming days. With this goal in mind, Yoga Camps will be organized this year in USA, Canada, U.K. and South Africa also. Gradually for these places also groups of students will be chosen for the period of one year. We are going to make the students (both boys and girls) of DSVV a medium to touch base with younger generation of our nation and foreign countries, and bring dynamism in them. These students have been sent to various places in groups of two, and they have achieved great success. The The literature of Acharya Shriram experimentation of internship has proved to be a very successful one. Moreover, it looks like in the Sharma: Translation – Publication coming three years a large portion of the Youth Foundation Shakti of the country is going to become as One of the main future responsibilities is that at precious as gold by the contact of well refined and least 1000 selected books out of 3200 books cultured young students of DSVV, just like mild written by Param Poojya Gurudev should be steel gets transformed into gold by the contact of Character of a man decides his future successes and failures. www.awgp.org

published in all the languages of India and the world. A foundation is being established for doing this. The thoughts of Poojyavar (Gurudev) should be spread throughout the world in at least ten main languages – English, French, Russian, German, Japanese, Chinese, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian and Thai. For this a huge and wide-ranging network is to be set up. So far the publication of Poojyavar’s books is available only in eight languages of India. Considering from the stand point of districts and provinces, we have to publish the literature of Poojyavar in thirty languages. This will only be possible when there is a huge network for translation (bhaavaanuvaad – the translated text should have the same meaning and feelings as the original) and there is a properly organized timetable for publishing the same. These days ‘Akhand Jyoti’ magazine has been started publishing in Assamese (Language that people of Assam speak). Also the plan for publishing the same in Malayalam and Kannada is in the initial phase. Other than this, there is a plan to publish in the language of Chota Nagpur with the script of Devanagari, and similarly in other languages too with the script of Devanagari. This way the thoughts of Poojyavar will be delivered to the masses. In this every type of small and large books, books for common people, and deluxe editions of books will be there. The entire responsibility for publishing them has already been taken by Gayatri Tapobhoomi Mathura and Akhand Jyoti Sansthan. From the time of Poojyavar itself they have had a huge infrastructure for publishing available with them, which time and again has been developed further and modernized. On this basis only we can hope that if this foundation becomes active then by 2011 we will be transmitting the excellent thoughts of Poojyavar to a very large group of people of the world. This is a highly ambitious plan and in this the emotion-filled donations of a large group of rich people will be needed.

DSVV has to be published in all the magazines of India and the world in coming days. The background for doing this is ready and this year these publications, which are useful to masses, which will give new direction to the community as a whole, will be available for reading in many magazines of the nation (India). In April 2004, the research report of a girl student doing research in the Department of Science of Vedas at DSVV was published by the American ‘Complementary and Alternative Medicine’ magazine. This report, named after Dr. Pranav Pandya, Meenakshi Raghuvanshi and Dr. Rajani Joshi, reached millions of people through this magazine. This report described the treatment through Yagya and follow-up of patients who were suffering from multi drug resistant (on whom no allopathic medicine was having any effect) T.B. This work was very successful and was accepted in unison by the publishers of the magazine who acknowledged that Yagyopathy is the Medicinal Therapy of the twenty-first century.

Restructuring of Zones

This year ten main zonal offices and more than forty sub-zonal offices have been restructured and made active. This is the decentralization of All World Gayatri Pariwar – The Mission in the form of Yug Nirman Yojana. Due to this, the organization will become well managed, and all the activities will be done efficiently. There is a surge of dynamism because of this plan started in January 2004, and in no time ten zonal centers have become active all over India. Masses have got detailed information from the organizational camps (kaaryashaalaaon). In the upcoming organizational camps at the sub-zonal level, the whole organization’s ethics and way of operating will become much clear to masses through the training offered by time donating volunteers. The organizational camps at Ayodhya, Raipur The publication of Research Papers and (Chhattisgadh) and Cuttack (Orissa) would be over Monographs etc. by the time this edition reaches you. Personality Adjustment and Psychosomatic Symptoms as Related to Role Stress among Working Women - I Prama Sharma*, 'Dev Sanskriti', vol. 2, year 2, page 33-40, December 2004. Abstract

for which both husband and wife have to work. Initially, women sought jobs mainly in educational institutions, but now they are competing successfully in all walks of life and almost in every profession including police and army. This changed scenario has no doubt enhanced the family income but it has also overloaded women with dual responsibilities of home and profession. On account of this role overload, they sometimes fail on the one hand to fulfill the expectations of their husband regarding family life and on the other hand they cannot function at optimum level in their profession. This frustration makes their life miserable. The situation worsens if the inherent demands of the profession interfere with the normal routine of household duties. Some of the professions, which require women to work at odd hours, include medical profession, railways, nursing, police and such other jobs, which have shift duties. Some of these jobs are very exhaustive and have inherent strains for people, who opt for them. This is truer in case of working women, who have to face these strains with those awaiting them at home. The frustration and role stress of these working women increases manifold if they also experience role isolation, ‘Personal inadequacy’, resource inadequacy, role stagnation, self-role distance and inter role distance.

An attempt has been made in the present work to study the personality adjustment and psychosomatic symptoms as related to role stress among working women. A. sample of 400 working and non-working women was taken. The organizational role stress scale developed by Dr Uday Parikh, P.G.I. Health Questionnaire by S.K. Verma & Personality Adjustment Inventory by C.P. Sharma were used to study the various psychological parameters. The results show a significant difference in psychological health of working and non-working women.

Introduction Hindu Dharma Shastras are full of such references. Papadia (1958) describing the role of wife writes, “as a river merging itself in the ocean loses its identity, so a wife was supposed to merge her individuality with that of her husband. Her only concern in life was to see that she properly performed all services needed by her husband. The satisfaction of her husband became her sole job in life”. Such role perceptions and role expectation have gone a sea change in the last 50 years. The processes of industrialization and urbanization have altered the traditional concept of family, and the distinct roles, once described to men and women are fast changing. The role of population, paucity of jobs constantly rising prices, growing needs for commodities of comfort and luxury and such movements as ‘Women Lib’ have encouraged a house wife to come out of the family confines and seek jobs outside family. The impact of western culture has accelerated this process. The life style based on ‘Santosham Param Sukham’ has become obsolete. We want to amass more and more within the shortest period of time

Tools used 1. Organizational Role Stress Scale (ORS Scale). This has been prepared by Dr..Udai Parikh. 2. PGI Health Questionnaire. Dr. S. K. Verma, Dr..N. N. Wig and Dr. Dwarka Prasad have prepared this. 3. Personality Adjustment Inventory Dr. C. P. Sharma has developed the personality adjustment inventory (PAI) containing items to measure the maladjustment - adjustive behavioral reaction to the individual. To be continued in the next issue …

Last year a news was published about the discovery of a vaccine for AIDS by Professor Pradeep Seth of the Department of Microbiology at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).

This scientist who tamed the treacherous demon of AIDS is considered a “Saint”. Even after making such an extraordinary discovery, he is far from egoism and excessive excitement. He describes his discovery in the Ramayana format. He says – The kind of HIV by which AIDS occurs in India is foreign Type-2. This cunning and deceptive virus, which came from South Africa, is like Meghanad (Ravana’s son) and changes its form by pre-sensing the resistance power of the body. One needs eyes like Lakshman in order to control this virus. He believes that he has made the Brahmaastra (a weapon that never fails) for destroying this dangerous disease. This news was published last year in daily newspaper “Hindustan”. The writer says that after talking to Dr. Seth one cannot figure out whether he has studied more of Virology or Gita and Ramayana. Dr. Seth himself says that from receiving the prestigious Shanti Swaroop Bhatnagar award and other national and foreign awards to the discovery of the vaccine for AIDS, everything is the blessing of his spiritual teacher and not a miracle. He is a disciple of Maharaj Premnath. After taking Deekshaa (initiation) from him in 1971, the direction of life changed completely, and one miracle after another took place. Because of the specialities of his spiritual life, Dr. Seth kept on moving forward even in the midst of many difficulties. In the beginning when he was assistant professor, then he used to get only Rs. 2000 for research from the Indian Medical Council, while in those days in USA people got Rs. 10 Lakh for research. He himself used to broom his laboratory. Because his research laboratory was small, he kept taking help from other laboratories while enduring much noncooperation and disrespect. In 1978, after getting Raja Sher Singh of Kalsia award from ICMR, central government gave him Rs. 25 Lakh for research, and since then he never faced shortage of funds. He also faced all his family difficulties with patience and courage. In his great achievement he received full cooperation from his wife Poonam too. Instead of decorating the body of a lady by jewelry, try to decorate the personalities of all the members of the family by virtues.

To Give Up Vices [Akhand Jyoti – May, 2003] Nothing is more inimical to a person’s well being and happiness than their own vices and negative tendencies. A person overpowered by negativity of mind and vicious habits becomes a mental and physical wreck. Not only liquor, gambling, adultery but laziness, negligence, backbiting etc. are vices which need to be shunned as poison. If a man takes liquor or is used to some other addiction, gambles or is a indocile adulterer, he not only wastes money but also invites serious physical, mental and intellectual disorders. However healthy and rich may be a liquor addict, this habit of his will definitely make him weak and poor with the passage of time. Till there is strength in body and money in the pocket, one does not feel the slow poisonous effect of liquor. But with the diminishing of his monetary resources he is forced to take low quality liquor resulting in rapid fall in his health, making him an easy pray of fatal afflictions of body and mind. Life becomes a tortuous hell. He is prepared to sell and stake his dearest possession to satisfy his addiction. He is unable to intelligently assess his past, present and future. Drunkard is blind to all his duties to society and the family. If he misses something acutely it is the bottle of liquor and the imaginary pleasure that he derives from the poison of its intoxication. There is no end to the worries of a drunkard. When he is in senses he is weighed down by the remorse of his un-discharged responsibilities. But since he is not in a position to remove the causes of his worries, they go on eating into his vitals. To get rid of his genuine worries he craves for liquor and after the craving is satisfied, he sinks back into the usual delirium. Worrying and only worrying becomes his life schedule when he is in his senses. His capacity of removing them is exhausted, and slowly and steadily he worries himself to self-destruction.. How horrible, how painful and how dangerous is the life of a drunkard. Gambling is the king of all the vices. A gambler lives and dies every moment. Bearing a new blow every moment, he passes a terrible life. Tormented by law, afraid of society and scared of his family he burns his own and his family’s life by staking his fortune through indulgence in this pernicious pastime. While sitting at stake there is pulsation of life and death in the beating of his heart. Possibility of losing a stake dries up his blood and joy of winning makes his heart to explode it. Winning in Gambling is worse than losing. On losing one can be disappointed and being disappointed he can leave gambling for some time. But on winning one gets puffed up. He bets like an insane person, talks arrogantly and makes moves like a mad person. When the excitement of winning is taken away by the stroke of defeat he becomes furious like a mad dog. Putting his all at stake he wants to win once and in this process he becomes a beggar, loses his reputation in society and is entrapped into the clutches of law. His family laments, wife weeps and children starve. It is the same sordid story with all gamblers. The only worry of a gambler is to arrange money to bet. He seeks the solution of all his problems in his stake only. On every bet he expects to win. He always thinks that if not on this stake, on the next stake he will take back two, three four times more and with that very money he will solve all his worldly problems. Solutions to the problems of education of his children, their marriages and their boarding and lodging seem to him hidden in the next stake. How enormous a deception, how great an irony and how dangerous a self-conceit is this wild expectation. Unless the internal level of a person is uplifted, he cannot get the benefits of a good condition.

Any clean and airy place is good for morning walk. Although lawns, gardens or open grounds or terrace are the best for the purpose, there is also a substitute. Those who do not have access to these places can instead practice "Still march fast" (by folding the knees one after the other up to the stomach in each step keeping the thighs perpendicular to it while standing straight at one place) at a fast pace in an open room. This exercise should be practiced for about fifteen to thirty minutes. To be continued in the next issue ...
