IV. Diversity of Learners
In Ms. Moss’s second block Language Arts class, the students are like typical sixth grade learners with abilities ranging from below average to greatly above average. Overall, the class is has an average ability level. The eight males and eleven females’ ages range from 11-13 years old. Ethnicity is broken down into twelve Black students, five White students, and two Hispanic students. When it comes to what the students like to do, they are characteristic are other children at their age and grade level. When asked what they enjoyed doing and what were some of their favorite things, students gave replies such as talking on their cell phones, playing with their friends and family, shopping, and participating in a variety of sports. The learning styles of our students vary from student to student. Some students are strictly visual learners where they get the most out of activities such as reading out of the textbook and seeing notes being put on the board. The auditory learners in our class benefit from participating in listening to stories being read aloud and receiving verbal instructions along with their written ones. My kinesthetic learners usually can be found drawing or doodling during class or the first ones to correct a problem by hand on the board. The students tend to blend well during instruction as my teacher teaches to benefit all types of learners. In my second period class, I do not have any students with special needs.
