Project Overview: ActionAid Bangladesh, under its DIPECHO V intervention titled “Enhancing Disaster Preparedness among Communities and Institutions in Bangladesh” is focusing on two keys issues viz “enhance Community capacity and increase institutional capacity and responsiveness. These activities will be done in collaboration with local partner NGOs viz YPSA (Chittagong), PSTC (Dhaka) MMS (Pabna) and CODEC (Chittagong). The project envisages to work very closely with the government and other key institutions in order to ensure a comprehensive and wholistic approach to Disaster Preparedness. Budget

The project will reach 14,770 direct beneficiaries who are the most vulnerable groups among the community. It includes community members, volunteers, poor fisher-folks, workers in the garment industries and those, who have a very critical role to play in the event of the disaster viz the doctors, nurses and other staff of hospitals and owners of garments factories. Action Aid will enhance the capacity of the institutions like the Directorate of Health Services, Directorate of Education Services and Garments Manufacturers Association. Reduce the vulnerability of people living in areas highly prone to natural disasters Strengthen local communities and institutions (volunteer groups, disaster management committees) to prepare for and respond to cyclone, earthquake and flood

Local communities have strengthened their capacity to cope with and respond to natural disasters. Local institutions (hospitals, schools and factories) have equipment and capacity to effectively respond to disasters. Strengthened coordination among all stakeholders for joint advocacy on national disaster preparedness planning and policy formulation
