DIMENSIONAL ANALYSIS
Example Give the dimension of: b)Velocity c)Acceleration d)Area
Solution: a)
Velocity = displacement/time so, dimensional for velocity: [velocity] = [displacement]/[time] = L/T = LT-1 so, SI unit for velocity = ms-1
Solution: a)
Acceleration = velocity/time so, dimensional for acceleration: [acceleration]=[velocity]/[time] = LT-1/T =LT-2 so, SI unit for acceleration = ms2
Solution: a.
Area = length x width so, dimensional for area: [area]=[length][width] = LL = L2 so, SI unit for area = m2
