Noted and multi-awarded artist Raul S. Dimalanta will hold a one-man art exhibit “Dream Land” on July 16, 2009, 4:00 pm at the Philippines Women’s University Gallery, Taft campus, Manila with Manila Mayor Alfredo Lim and former Senator and now PWU Board Chairperson Dr. Helena Z Benitez as guests of honor. The exhibit which will run up to July 31, 2009 is organized by the PWU Center for Culture, Arts, Music of Sports headed by Suzie Benitez. Dimalanta, an alumnus of PWU has been reaping honors since his student days and is considered one of its top artists having received the most number of awards and honors. Among the grand awards he garnered through the years were Vigan House painting contest, PWU on-the spot painting, Solidarity for Social Dedication painting and Pampanga Art competitions. For two consecutive years (1995-1996), he made it as honorable mention in the Philip Morris Competition, painting category. He has participated in and mounted close to 80 art exhibits, the latest of which was held last February when he joined, along with 23 alumni artists “Ang Pagbabalik: Mga Pantas-Sining ng PWU” Exhibit organized by Dean Emeritus Charito Bitanga-Peralta, director/curator of The PWU Gallery to mark the 90th founding anniversary of the school. A scholar of the College of Music and Fine Arts from 1969 to 1976 with the late National Artist for Music Dr. Lucrecia Kasilag as its dean, Dimalanta’s inspiration then was the late artist, Mariano Madarang who was the director of Fine Arts College. Upon graduating in 1976 and already had extensive work experience as interior, production and muralist designer, design supervisor, art director and consultant, he taught as a professor in the PWU College of Fine Arts. He is currently a member of the Art Association of the Philippines, Philippine Christian Art, Production Designers Guild of the Philippines, FILVAG-Filipino Visual Artist Guild, the Scriptwriter’s Guild of the Phil. and Likarta Art Group.
