Cisco VG224 Analog Phone Gateway

What is the difference between the Cisco® VG224 and VG248 Analog Phone Gateways? The Cisco VG224 Analog Phone Gateway is based on the same technology used to build Cisco IOS® Software. As a result, the Cisco VG224 gateway delivers the quality-of-service (QoS) features found in Cisco IOS Software, and also enables the high-density capabilities of RJ-21 interfaces. The following table details the differences between the Cisco VG224 and VG248 gateways in a Cisco Unified CallManager analog gateway deployment scenario. Analog Feature

Does the Cisco VG224 support Secure Real-Time Transport Protocol (SRTP)? The Cisco VG224 supports SRTP in Media Gateway Control Protocol (MGCP) in Cisco IOS Release 12.3(11)T2 and above. Skinny Client Control Protocol (SCCP) and Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) SRTP are in development for delivery on the platform. Does the Cisco VG224 support Survivable Remote Site Telephony (SRST)? The Cisco VG224 is an analog line-side gateway that connects to a Cisco access router, such as the 2800 or 3800 series ISRs, running SRST. Therefore, the Cisco VG224 is not required to support SRST. Are there plans to offer Simplified Message Desk Interface (SMDI) support on the Cisco VG224 Analog Phone Gateway? The Cisco VG224 offers SMDI tunneling through the AUX port back to CCM for SMDI termination. Customers who need local SMDI termination should use the Cisco VG248 Analog Phone Gateway. What voltage does the Cisco VG224 use to light message waiting indicators (MWIs)? The Cisco VG224 uses FSK to light MWIs up to 40V. Can I use a Cisco IP SoftPhone with an analog phone connected through a Cisco VG224 Analog Phone Gateway? Yes, as long as the Cisco VG224 is configured as an SCCP device. What codecs are supported by the Cisco VG224 Analog Phone Gateway? G.711 and G.729a. Is there a backup power supply or backup Ethernet connection? Yes, the Cisco VG224 offers a backup power supply through APC (Battery Supply Part Number CP75B12NA3-120), a Cisco partner. The Cisco VG224 also has two 10/100BASE-T ports for dual homing configuration for switch failover. What Cisco IOS Software release on the Cisco VG224 Analog Phone Gateway supports SCCP? Cisco IOS Software Release 12.4(2)T and above. Does the Cisco VG224 not support certain features as an SCCP device? The Cisco VG224 does not support the following features: Completion of Calls to Busy Subscribers (CCBS)—When a calling party receives a busy tone, the caller can request that the call complete when the busy destination hangs up the phone and becomes available. Completion of Calls on No Reply (CCNR)—When a calling party receives no answer at the destination, the calling party can request that the call complete after the activity occurs on the phone of the called party.
